how to effectively use shock Cavalry and Total War Rome 2. shotcav are powerful heavily armored and deliver a deadly charge your main objective is to get hammer and Anvil charges onto enemy forces rear charges and charges against unbraced units will cause the most casualties however shock Cav lacks melee defense and will easily die in prolonged fighting it is best to charge the shot Cav in wait 5-10 seconds for the charge to wear off then pull them out rinse and repeat

Bruh if the enemy formation looks like that mess on your map you can just flank them with your crappiest infantry on the wings and not waste heavy cav at all.

Катафракты силнее чем вы думаете. При способности натиск они могут в лоб пробить пехотный отряд противника. Не завязывая бой они спокойно проходят в тыл сквозь упавших солдат. Особенно эффективен тандем слоны в броне + катафракты. Отряды противника сразу начинают паниковать. Если у пехоты противника есть боевое построение фаланга копий, фаланга пик, стена щитов, квадрат или черепаха вот тогда бить надо только в тыл.

Edit : I’m back again to say that cav in this game is disappointing, units don’t break often from them in my opinion
I mostly always pick melee based factions, i always forgets to pull outs the cavalry.
Using them effectively is probably the closest you get to art in rome2
Cavalry tactics are interesting when you use full cavalry, the horse archers consume the enemy's manpower and stamina, and then when the enemy is exhausted and half of them have been lost, the cataphract charge is a massacre

I use them to sweep the archers first, then start slamming the enemy from behind.
Is there altenative game like rome 2 but in modern setting?

also heavy shock cav can decimate lighter all types of cav cavs without any losses if have clear charge. it usefull then u have better cav, but weaker infantry. be avare of ranged cav.

When i try to pull mine out they don't they just continue to fight even though they are not surrounded
