Hey guys, wanted to get some opinions on this trucker. The asking price is crazy right? He said he used it a few times and had it assembled with custom components at a bike shop in france. I've never had a bike with a gear box before, I heard it's not possible to have drop bars right?

That’s not a crazy price for a Surly Disc Trucker in Europe with brooks saddle , brooks grips and an Alfine IGH…. Especially if it was ridden little which seems the case as it looks in great condition (and the wear on an IGH is much slower than normal geared bikes)
The amount of money to switch this to a drop bar bike will make no sense , especially with the Alfine hub, so forget that or forget this bike
There’s plenty of drop bar bikes with gear boxes. You can use an adapter like the hubbub or with fancy drop bars that you can split like rohloff drop barsÂ
I know there is a drop bar conversion for the Alfine 11 speed. I may get it some day.
But that bike would be excellent for city riding. I have a Soma Wolverine with 11-sp Alfine and a flat bar. It’s excellent for city, winter, and inclement weather riding.
Get that bike. You’ll love it.
If you think the price is too good to be true, ask if the seller has any receipts/ can tell a decent story about where they purchased the bike (that is actually a place where you could buy a Disc Trucker).Â
