I just bought a second hand Brompton. It's a 6 speed model from 2021. The shifter for the internal hub is stuck in the 3rd gear, and will not shift down to 2 unless I push the lever past the limiter (gear doesn't "catch"). It's the same from going to 2 to 1, but I do not feel the gear change for this. I figured it might be an issue with the adjuster by the hub, but I made multiple adjustments w/o any change in the issue. I tried blasting the shifter mechanism with some WD-40 and Tri Flow. At this point, I think the best thing is to change out the shifter entirely. I was wondering if this shifter from Brompton is compatible:

It's a different color, but the other one on their website was out of stock:

Should I purchase the one that's in stock or wait for stock for the second one? I'm open to other alternatives as well.

  1. Have you tried experimenting with the tension on the cable? If there isn’t enough the shifter may work like how you are describing it. There is a barrel adjuster at the hub.

Too much tension and it will also not work
