You’re already spending boatloads on triathlons. Save a few here and buy a cheaper bike. Trust me, you’re not that competitive yet.

Why even bother getting a tri bike, let alone a shitty old one? Just get a cheap road bike you can actually ride before and after the tryathlon.
There are several reasons why there are so many barely used triathlon bikes for sale….

I mean, have you been sized/ fitted for either model or manufacturer?
Bike fit is the only real thing that matters aside from it being in good mechanical condition, and if it is a badly fitting bike it will always be a “bad” bike.

If you can afford it buy the one that fits better, if you are doing your first Half Iron I’d go for the Scott and I use the extra money for a Professional bike fit, not at your local bike shop. When I did Triathlons I paid for a professional fit from a place that specializes in endurance racing. It made a world of difference in my comfort. Expect to pay for the fit as well as possibly new pedals/shoes, seat and stem.

The Scott looks like a better value, the Cervelo is going to give you more cred among the trigeeks.
But really, you won’t notice that much of a difference performance-wise.
FWIW the Cervelo looks to still have most of its steerer tube and the Scott is slammed. If this is your first time riding in an aero position I would probably go with the Cervelo because you will have more room to adjust the stem height. And then you can head over to r/bikefit (where the first thing everyone will tell you is to lower your saddle).

for my preference, I like more the first bike. it suits my personality and my preferred specs

Assuming they both fit correctly, I’d go with the Cervelo. That was a fairly top of the line bike in its day.

Meet up with both of them, ride them around. Get a good feel each of them, see which one feels best.
But most importantly, figure out which one you like to pee on the most.

I would prefer the Cervelo. more prestige

Does it have to look like something an athlete would spend thousands on, can it just be regular? Are you at that level or something?

Basing it on looks alone (I didn’t see the pricing until after I started typing) I’d go with the Scott, he’s a little hottie.
