Usual disclaimer: this will not spare you a trip to an expert.

On that note, I reckon they will tell you that your frame is cracked.

  3. I think you already know the answer to that question. You’re hoping someone will say otherwise.

10 minutes later on FB Marketplace:

“Lightly used red full suspension mountain bike. This is my baby and I’m sad to see it go, it will serve you well if you buy it, $8,000 firm, no trades, I know what I got!”

    * Is this cracked / safe to ride?

If you have to ask, don’t ride it. We probably can’t tell from a picture just what condition your bike is in. Take it to your Local Bike Shop and ask them. If it’s carbon, a specialist repair shop may be required. They should have the equipment and expertise to inspect it properly.

  6. That crack has been there for a while that debris and water have chewed away some of the crack edges. I am surprised your rear fork hasn’t failed yet.

Does the carbon flex if you press on it? I’m going to go against the other’s consensus and say it looks like a gouge in the paint and possibly top layer of carbon. It also looks like there could have been an associated impact that could have caused the inner layers to flex and crack. I would be very hesitant to ride it without a thorough inspection, but it might not be dead yet. I would also be concerned with weakened integrity of the carbon even if it is not currently cracked.
