Jenny and Patrick continue along the Loire river on La Loire à Velo (Eurovelo 6). We leave Briare in the beautiful morning light and cycle along a tree lined canal. We have lunch next to a nuclear power plant. We visit a grocery store before pushing our bikes up to the hilltop village of Sancerre. We locate our room for the night before eating a simple dinner and taking a stroll through the town.
What you can do is you do this. You go. You lean forward. You take a step. You lean forward. You take a step. Lean forward. Break. Take a step. Lean forward. In today’s cycling trip, we begin in Briar, then ride our bicycles along a canal that runs parallel to the Lir River for most of the day, and end our day in Sansere, a hilltop town. It’s about 22 miles or 35 kilometers. We packed our piurs, loaded up our bikes, visited the bologerie down the street, and headed towards Sansair. For most of the day, we would be following this canal that was close to the Lir River. Today we have a unique location for our lunch. We are sitting under the nuc nuclear power plant. There’s I think this is the fourth one we’ve seen along the lir. Um but they have really nice picnic table here to sit at. And Patrick was able to go into this little shop and get a coffee. So, he’s really happy. Um, and we’re just going to have our usual cheese baguette. And we were going to have pate, but that didn’t work out very well. Yeah, we didn’t find this will be for the This is a This little petissery. That’s for the afternoon stop. So, we’re all ready. Okay. Enjoy, Patrick. Enjoy, Teddy. Okay. Bye. After satisfying our hunger, we got back on the bikes, went past the nuclear power plant, and headed toward Sansair. We are headed into Sansair and we’ve been riding along this canal. Hi. And I see Sansair. It’s at the top of that hill. So, we have to go from down here. all the way up there. I’m definitely walking the bike. Before heading up the hill, we decided to go to the grocery store to buy food for a simple dinner. Plus, it’s always fun to visit a French grocery store to see what items are on their shelves. It just keeps getting more and more steep. Do you see that at the head? Yeah. At least it’s 70, not 80. 85 or whatever it’s going to be. This man on his ebike came zooming past us, we believe, saying something in German. How strenuous it was. Oh, to have an ebike right now. Okay, we made it to the top. Sorry, I’m out of breath. We had to push our bikes up up from down there. I don’t I don’t think the phone can do it justice. The video. Oh my gosh. You can see the There’s the Lir way down in there. You can see the nuclear power plants where long ways away over to the left. Oh yeah, that’s right. We came from way over there. So this is all wine fields or grape fields. And now Patrick, are you dripping in sweat? It looks like it. Do you see the Yeah, the telltale strip of sweat. And then we have to go up that hill. And I think we’re almost there, but I can’t tell. Okay, here we go. H made it this far. Spice time. Yeah. Number five. So, we made it to Sansair, came all the way up the hill with our bikes, and we are staying here. See? Open it up. Oh, I think Patrick locked me out. Oh, no, he didn’t. Okay. Um, here we are. This is the couch living room area. We um put our bikes right here. I’ll just sweep. I don’t the floor when we leave cuz you see there’s a broom and uh that’s a cute little area right here. Old floor. This really neat tiles. Looks like this is bedroom. And this way. Haven’t seen the bathroom yet. Oh wow. Look at the tiles in this room. Um, little kitchenet and actually a a washing machine. We just can’t dry. So, we will not do that cuz since we leave tomorrow. We had our dinner in the apartment before going out and exploring Sansair. Sansair is a medieval hilltop town. Most of the old fortifications are gone. It is now famous for its white wine production. We spend our days biking all day. We get to our hotel. We’re sweaty and we shower. our accommodations, shower, and then we spend the evening walking these towns. We’re getting quite the workout, right, Patrick? Yes. But that’s why we get to enjoy the food that we’ve been eating, too. Huh. Cuz all we do is work, work, work, work our bodies. Yes. Yes. This is such a neat town because, you know, there’s no place to park their cars and people live here and they just got to park wherever they can. You can smell wine. This is an interesting location in Sansair. This is the R de Juit, the street of the Jews. and they lived they were forced to live only on this street um in 1276. So and that happened throughout Europe. The whistling priest that just passed us was so intriguing. We quickly followed him down the street. And when we got to the bottom of it, we were looking out at a gorgeous view of all the vineyards on the hillsides. And we will leave you here amongst the rolling vineyards of Sansair.
