Pulled some spokes off an old wheel and just hoped they’d fit. They seemed okay but 3 spokes were too long and wouldn’t get tension. I got the lacing pattern down but could not true the wheel to a reasonable level. Bad spokes, using seat post collar as nipple tool. Stripped and damaged the nipples. Set myself up for failure. Next time I will mentally prepare and get the right stuff and do it all in a nice open space.

  2. trial and error is an important part of the learning process

good on you for taking action and being open-minded about it.

  3. This has inspired me. I have rims, my hubs are on their way. Next is the spoke calculator.

Anyone here who has built wheels with dura ace njs hubs got any first hand tips?

As a younger man I used to build PCs. Back when anything you could buy was a plain beige box. When overclocking was a thing that could improve performance significantly.
    Now theres no need.
I dont even change my flats anymore. Just go to my trusted guy at my lbs and give him the business. I’ve been going to him for 40 years.
So I respect you learning thr process but as a married guy in his 50s I’ll just buy a wheel or have my lbs guy build it for me.
