So I am building a fixed gear bike. I already bought the Peugeot frame for $30 but saw this concord frame listed earlier yesterday for $60.

They are roughly the same size, I think the concord is a teeny bit bigger. I have heard of Peugeot before but have never heard of concord so don’t know which way to go.

Which one should I go with in terms of value for what I’m paying?

  1. Both are fine, I’d go with the Peugeot just because I think it’s pretty. Just check that the bottom bracket is adjusted properly and not rusted in place. They are a pain to remove if they’re stuck. That said, might aswell rebuild the BB with new ball bearings and grease.

  2. The Peugeot is large, maybe 58 or 60 cm. But the Concord is laaaaaaarge, maybe like 64cm or something.

Anyway, both frames are approximately equivalent. Concord is/was a pretty common lower-end brand in the US. Most of their bikes were kinda junky, although they had a couple that were nice enough to be equivalent to a more reputable brand’s entry-level bike.

And Peugeot was a larger, more reputable brand, they had some good models and some more entry level, and sold a bazillion of the lower-end UO8’s like you have here.

Stick with whatever is more likely to fit. The Concord is not an upgrade over your Peugeot, and overpriced, so don’t buy it unless you think the Peugeot is too small.

I have a uo8 (not a fixie build) and it is a great bike. Main issue with old French bikes is they have their own standards that do not align with modern bike components. Sheldon brown’s article on French bikes is a must-read. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/velos.html

If you’re excited about wrenching it makes a rewarding experience, and you will be happy with the ride quality once you get it out on the road. Very comfortable, very fun.
