CYCLING TO THE EIFFEL TOWER & SLEEPING UNDER THE STARS: THE ULTIMATE PARISIAN ADVENTURE!
There are travel adventures, and then there are once-in-a-lifetime experiences that leave you speechless, transforming how you see the world. My recent journey to the Eiffel Tower was exactly that—a surreal combination of cycling, exploration, and pure magic that unfolded right in the heart of Paris, under the shimmering lights of one of the world’s most famous landmarks.
In this video, I’ll take you through every exhilarating moment, from the early stages of planning this adventure to the breathtaking final moments of falling asleep under the stars with the Eiffel Tower in full view. Whether you’re a cycling enthusiast, an adventurer at heart, or someone who’s always dreamed of visiting Paris, this journey will inspire you to explore the world in a unique way.
THE IDEA: COMBINING CYCLING AND A BUCKET LIST DREAM
Cycling has always been one of my passions, and combining it with travel has unlocked so many unforgettable experiences. The idea for this adventure came from my love for blending two of my favorite activities: biking and discovering iconic landmarks. And what better landmark to start with than the Eiffel Tower? Known around the globe as a symbol of romance and grandeur, it’s one of those places that captivates your imagination even before you set foot in Paris.
But cycling to the Eiffel Tower wasn’t enough. I wanted to fully immerse myself in the magic of Paris, experiencing the tower in a way few others have. That’s when the thought hit me—why not sleep under the Eiffel Tower itself? Spending the night beneath its towering presence, gazing at the lights as they twinkle against the backdrop of a starry night, seemed like a dream come true.
This video captures every part of that experience—the build-up, the journey, and the unforgettable night beneath the Eiffel Tower.
PLANNING THE JOURNEY: PREPARATION AND GEAR
A big part of any adventure is the planning. Knowing I would be cycling through Paris’s busy streets and eventually camping out beneath the Eiffel Tower, I needed to carefully plan my route, gear, and logistics.
Choosing the Bike and Gear
I chose a lightweight touring bike, perfect for navigating both the cobbled streets of Paris and the smoother bike lanes leading to the Eiffel Tower. My bike setup was crucial since I’d be carrying not only the essentials for cycling but also camping gear for my overnight stay. I packed a compact sleeping bag, a light sleeping pad, and a small tent, though I planned to sleep mostly under the open sky.
I also brought along a few portable lights, some camera gear, and enough food and water to keep me going for the day. Since the weather in Paris can be unpredictable, I packed layers and a waterproof jacket just in case the skies decided to open up.
Mapping the Route
The next step was mapping out my route. I started my journey a little outside Paris, in a quiet suburb that allowed me to soak in the beauty of the French countryside before I hit the bustling city. The ride to Paris was roughly 30 kilometers (about 18.6 miles), which was perfect for a day of relaxed cycling. I planned to arrive at the Eiffel Tower by late afternoon, just in time to capture the beauty of the tower in daylight and enjoy the sunset as the evening set in.
THE CYCLING EXPERIENCE: FROM SUBURBS TO THE HEART OF PARIS
The cycling journey itself was nothing short of incredible. Riding from the peaceful outskirts of Paris into the vibrant, lively streets of the city was a stark but exciting contrast. As I pedaled closer to Paris, the skyline gradually changed—quiet countryside roads turned into buzzing streets filled with people, cafés, and iconic Parisian buildings.
Scenic Stops Along the Way
One of the best parts of cycling through Paris is that you can stop at various points to enjoy the scenery. As I rode into the city, I passed the famous Seine River, historic monuments, and beautiful gardens. I even made a quick detour to grab a classic French croissant and coffee—after all, what’s a trip to Paris without indulging in some local treats?
Navigating the Parisian Streets
Cycling through Paris isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s definitely rewarding. The city has a mix of dedicated bike lanes and shared roads, and it’s important to stay alert, especially in more crowded areas. Despite the hustle and bustle, cycling gave me the freedom to explore parts of Paris that I might have missed if I had taken public transportation.
As I neared the Champ de Mars—the large public greenspace that surrounds the Eiffel Tower—my excitement grew. You can catch glimpses of the Eiffel Tower as you cycle closer, but nothing compares to that moment when you finally see it in all its grandeur. Towering at 330 meters (1,083 feet), the Eiffel Tower commands attention, drawing your eyes upward as you get closer.
