Apnapan delivered a second The Big Bike Revival programme funded by Cycling UK 🚴‍♂️
Thank you to all the participants, instructor Arjun, Sharan from Cycling UK for all the support, and to Oadby and Wigston Council for hire of The Freer Centre.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to our distinguished guests, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire Mike Kapur and Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire Riaz Ravat for accepting our invitation and for to join us on the last session.
Projects like these are so meaningful. Having the opportunity of being able to learn how to ride a bike or further enhance skills in a safe space.Â
Boosting self-esteem / confidence, making new friends, promoting movement, and being active have overall positive health benefits.
Everyone’s resilience and determination were prominent. The individual progression and team spirit of encouraging one another was so heartwarming to see.
Apnapan is privileged to have been able to deliver this project twice, and I look forward to delivering more in the future. We are truly grateful to have been funded by Cycling UK through the Big Bike Revival programme.

Thank you for really informal at these in I normally start off uh by saying ladies and gentlemen welcome but if I may I’ve had such a warm welcome friends thank you so I’m delighted to be here with you this afternoon on what’s actually really quite a special occasion for some of you that have actually made quite I think a brave journey to think of a lifestyle of not having ridden a bike to have learned different ways to get around the city and the county to then want to do something completely different. It’s an act of bravery. It really is. Not many would have done it. And I applaud you all for having taken those steps to learn something new, to learn something that’s fun, to learn something that creates a new group of friends for you to engage with, but actually something that allows you to look your children in the eye as well. Cuz I look forward to doing that next year when all of my children are going to ride bikes and I don’t, and they’re already killing me. I’m going to get that for you. on your lead as well. But actually the I have the great privilege as some of you know of being his majesty king Charles’s personal representative in the city and county of Leicester and Leicester. Uh it’s a great privilege but one of the things that I think is even more privilege is that I get to bring the king’s messages into rooms. And so an awful lot of what you’ve achieved those of you that have been through the course is you’ve achieved some of the king’s priorities. and he has many priorities but the ones that resonate most with uh today and why I’m here today is the king is very passionate about climate so learning to ride a bike means that you are less dependent on fossil fuel activated transport so you’re supporting that mission he’s very keen on communities looking after themselves and coming together and I see a lot of that in this room he’s very very passionate about the commonwealth and if you just look around we’re all from Commonwealth countries um and So, you know, that priority has been met as well. So, it’s really important to come along and say that you think that you’ve actually come along and learned how to ride bikes through this excellent provision um that you’ve had access to, but actually you’ve also joined the king in some of his mission and some of his priorities. So, thank you for that. That to give always gives me great pleasure to find something that the king is interested in that is happening in our community so I can actually bring that personal message to you all. So, so thank you. Congratulations to all of you. I think you’ve done a great job. Um, none of you laughed too much when you saw me having a go for the first time. Again, thank you for that. But a huge congratulations on what you’ve achieved. I’m going to have the great pleasure in a moment of presenting, I believe, some certificates for the excellent efforts that you’ve all made. But before I do that, perhaps you give yourselves a huge round of applause. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] It’s like Oh my god. [Music]
