Red Bull Eye in the Sky was a fixed gear, track bike race around Auckland City, New Zealand. There were 5 checkpoints around the city and riders had to collect a token at each checkpoint. If a rider was running with a brake they had to visit a 6th checkpoint.

If you think these guys weren’t hauling enough ass, skip to 6:40. What?!

Rainier Schaefer took 1st place with a time of 19.22min. And he hauled ass.

  1. I'm from Nz been in Melbourne Aussie 10 years, nice to see natures finest holding a primo event, no way the "nanny state" I'm in would do this, unfortunately, red bull or not.. Had no idea it was as pop in NZ as in AUS… Nice!

  2. its snobs like you that made me not want to get into cycling before fixed gear. now i ride both fixed and road and love them in different ways. From someone who rides in full cycling kits and in cut offs and t-shirts they are equally merited just different. Dont make the assumption that you know more than fixed gear cyclists even if they ride without a brake. Because I can almost guarantee you dont.

  3. LOL teh guy on the scooter is probably from thailand or vietnam because he did not give any fucks about local traffic laws. LOL./

  4. I'm assuming the traffic in this area was "just for effect"? (ie closed roads)…otherwise this has probably made Aucklanders tool up and start carrying baseball bats in their cars

  5. Good one Red Bull. Bikes ignoring red lights, cameraman bike on wrong side of road, little 'ol lady in the park nearly wiped out…  epic road rule busting!

  6. I was at the London Triathlon about 2 weeks ago and in one of the 40k road races we spotted a guy cycling (not that fast) on a fixie and he was flying past the other riders. We thought he was crazy , it was awesome!
