I won't be putting my food on a table. I don't care about this rule. I've seen birds flying through (sidewalk cafe) restaurant interiors and land on tables. No linens were changed. People sneeze and get up and leave…they place dirty cell phones, hands, bags that have touched metro seats (and the GROUND) anywhere as they're dining and getting up to leave. I don't find it hygienic seeing silverware and/or bread sitting out in the open on a table. I want silverware wrapped in a clean napkin and bread in a bread basket or on my plate. I hope they'll overlook this faux pas from me.
one time i ate pasta for gouter and it was scandelous
food rules are dumb i just eat when i want
What if someone was diabetic or hypoglycemic and had to eat?
Do Americans know that they'll survive if they're a little hungry for a few hours
Who eats dinner at 5/5:30 pm, seriously crazyyy , no joke😂😂😂😂
also the french won't get up for 2 hours when they sit down for dinner, they take their time.
This makes me irrationally angry at this character.
I live in America but we have dinner around 8 or 9 (I’m Brazilian), my friend told me she had to get off call for dinner and it was 5pm, and I was like, “do you mean evening tea and biscuits or smth?”
I love goin to places like these when they say '' don't break spagethi , drink wine with food , eat like this not like that drink this not that '' and doing the exact contrary to what they told me .
Wow so much dysfunction around food.
I had a sleepover with one of my friends when I was younger, and her family was French, and I felt like I was being STARVED 😭🤣 I don’t remember our exact meal because this was over seven years ago, but I know that for breakfast we had eggs, bread and tomatoes and then for dinner we had a fucking salad with no protein just veggies. And not even a lot of veggies to give a variety and kind of fill you up, but it was like spinach, tomatoes, and cucumber. I went to sleep that night with the worst stomach cramps from hunger.
I often have diner at 17h 😊
I love Gouter. It shouldn’t be just for kids, even adults need it !
For matter of dinner, I am french. My dinner time starts around 20 hours (8 pm).
I never breakfast heavily (besides of brunch with family on holidays).
I do meal only 1 or 2 courses in regular. I do meal cheese as side or own course (depending on my mood & storage at home).
Baguette is welcome but also sourdough or spelt bread.
Regarding snacks or so, I am easy going (no matter what & when, as long as it's not too harsh in ingredients)…
I would fail to French manners because I am lasse faire in attitude… 😘
And now I'm no longer sad I didnt have time to eat when I left the airport to go sight seeing in france last year.
It's like the Italians with their eating pasta rules
And voilà…that’s why french women look so trim and healthy. Their culture just isn’t conducive to all-day grazing.
for those asking about some rules :
– why bread can’t be put upside down it’s a rules from the middle age, baker put the bread upside down to recognize the bread they reserved for the executioner, who came after the market to reclame it. Upside down bread = you’re evil, and we wish you bad luck.
– about the fork rules, this one comes from the renaissance, the noble got fork with their blason on the inside side of the fork, if you put or turn your fork on the outside side you show disrespect and you’re there for a fight.
Old rules, few french stick to them nowadays. Am French and I eat what I want when I want if am ungry. Am just used to the 8/12/8 schedull😅
I'm from the U.S and I only really eat twice a day. So does most of my family.
Usually we'd eat dinner around 4-6pm and then a snack near bedtime. If someone is physically active or working that pushes dinner later(7-8pm) and they may get lunch at noon.
I find myself naturally eating a big meal at 4pm and then snacking on some cheese and salami before bed.
I’m from Mexico and our eating habits are similar to France & Spain. A glass of milk and a sweet roll for breakfast. For adults it’s coffee & a sweet roll. A big meal for lunch at 12 noon and a lite meal for dinner at 8 pm or even later (10 pm). If you get hungry before dinner we have coffee & cookies (It’s called merienda) 😍🙏🏼
Despite what people think ( that the French cook the best food because they have the best chefs in the world and that French cuisine is the best which is arguable) French parents dont make good food. A friend of my brother was impressed with my parents pasta and said it was delicious when he eats at our place ( my parents are Indian not French) so that must mean that the French ( including my brother's friend's parents) are not good cooks because regular French people ( not famous French cooks) cook plain pasta with butter! How is that considered good food? How is it delicious? How is that considered the best cuisine in the world? It's not.
I'm french and there are so many stupid rules everywhere ngl, it's annoying to live here'
In India dinner was at 8. In Oz dinner is at 5😂😂😂
