Got a second hand Kid Rides Shotgun seat and handlebar (the original version, not the 2.0)

The handlebar is massive on my handlebar (my bike is a Carrera Crossfire 2 Womens bike) – I was wondering if I’m doing anything wrong / missing anything?

Is this something I can solve by putting some rubber rings / pads into the gap?

Many thanks for any suggestions / previous experience.

  1. I’m surprised you didn’t receive rubber rings/pads in the packaging. Every single item I have purchased for handlebars comes with a minimum of 3 so they fit more than one sized bar. I also keep my extras should I ever be shorted by a company in the future. Double check your box. And the item description (if you ordered online) to see if they’re mentioned in the description, i.e., you may need to contact company to send you some if they didn’t pack them.

In theory you just need enough rubber to get it to clamp down. But that might just be too much of a difference. Old tubes don’t really work by the way, they don’t have enough friction on the metal.

It’s just a matter of shimming it up. (Making your bar wider) old inner tube would work, strip of rubber from a floor mat, look around your garage or go to the hardware store.

I have a similar seat, but I did not get any extra handlebars, I just wrapped my bar with handlebar tape for the kid to hold on to.

  5. I would buy a new stem and bar in a more modern size. I recently scored a really nice cromag set on pinkbike that were lightly used. Our local second hand gear spot always has a bunch too.
