I ride an e-bike personally but I always take these sorts of corners wide for this exact reason. Technically EScooters are illegal in the UK anyway. Privately owned ones (so the one you're likely riding) are illegal the only ones that typically are legal are rentable ones as they're covered under insurance (do a simple google search it tells you everything its only legal on private land)

Chances of him seeing you were greatly diminished due to the bushes on the side, but you ALSO had diminished vision, and still decided to speed up after the stairs.
