welcome to highlights of the 2020 elite women’s road race from the uci world road championships being held in imola in the emilio romana region of italy 143 kilometers starting finishing on the famous motor racing circuit five laps of 28.8 kilometers with the tough matzolano chimaganasterna climbs on each lap we give them 2 800 meters of climbing in tough race it was allison jackson who started the aggressive racing she was joined by grace brown at the front this would eventually merge to form 11 riders at the head of the race of wiles anderson alison hannah barnes lisa branau amy peter juliet laboose cathy robuson christine one nation to miss out with spain mavi garcia launched herself up the road into the leading group but the relentless nature of the circuit would thin out the leaders even more and it was down to nine riders on lap three holding just under a minute 20 seconds over the penalty an audacious move by eugenia bujak of slovenia great time trials tall order ahead of her to make it up to the leaders a minute and 18 was the chase peloton for two minutes and fifth seconds boo jack though made a light work of the chase just over 50 kilometers to go she’s gonna see the group ahead of her but the timing couldn’t have been worse the race was really coming alive behind them and it was mariana vos former world champion for the netherlands that was doing the work on the front she closed the gap down she had a last year’s world champion anime van vluten riding with a broken wrist on her wheel voss made it up the inside but it would be anna van der bregen the winner in innsbruck in 2018 that made the move just behind her without vloot and longaborghini uttra bloodwig they would be joined by lizzie diegnan they were the chasing group behind the newly crowned world time trial champion was at the head of the race and storming while the chasing group behind decided to wait for the peloton and try their luck on the final lap threw the bell and van der bregen was building her lead and was very much the champion elect with one lap to go she was looking like she was gonna do the double the gap was two minutes and 16 seconds on the finishing climbs though time trialling her way towards the finish longer bulgini tried her luck again uttrap ludwig closed the gap as did anime van vlooten lizzie diagno cassia nuvia domer leanne lipper and marianna voss were giving chase but it was gonna come down to longaborgini and anamik van vluten for the medals the beautiful shot over the hillside they were one minute and 37 down on van der bregen they had enough of an advantage over that group behind onto the finishing circuit up towards the line anna van der bregen does the double the first rider since jenny longo to do so the new world champion takes it for the netherlands celebrations all round for anna van der bregen takes her second world road race title the sprint for the silver medal though between elisa longa borghini and van vluten van vluten went up the barriers it was close but it will throw to the line fluted made it a 1-2 for the netherlands elisa longa borghini had to take the bronze mariano led in the chasing group for fourth leanne lippert lizzie diagonal cassio nuviadoma cecilia ludwig marlon another rainbow jersey the second of these championships [Music] there’s your podium she takes it from her teammate anna meek van gluten with alisa borghini the home rider from italy [Music] you
