This medieval town in Southern France isn’t on every tourist list, but it should be. Avignon surprised us with one of the coolest museums we’ve ever visited (hello, Pope’s Palace and iPad treasure hunts), gorgeous hidden streets, and a cathedral that felt straight out of a fantasy novel.
📍What we did in 24 hours:
– Breakfast in the old town
– Explored a Pinterest-perfect umbrella street (Rue des Fourbisseurs )
– Scanned our way through the Pope’s Palace like medieval Pokémon GO
– Cooled off (barely) in 100°F gardens
– Free museum + cathedral visit
Add Avignon to your France itinerary. You won’t regret it.

This might be one of the coolest museums we’ve been to. It’s day 44 and 45 of our year-long world trip. And while the train from Milan to Avignon was beautiful, it was quite long and it’s got nothing on exploring Avenueon itself. We grabbed a delicious local breakfast before accidentally walking down perhaps the most beautiful street we’ve seen. Check the description below to fill your Pinterest board. We then made our way to Lord Farquad’s Palace. Oops, I meant the Post Palace. While it may not be pimp and decorations inside due to some fires, they gave you an iPad with no instructions and a bunch of QR codes throughout the palace. You scan them, look around through the screen, and collect treasures like rare Pokémon. We cooked in 100° heat in the gardens below and got sprayed with bee water on our way to the ecclesiastical free entry museum and cathedral. We grabbed a quick dinner like last ones in first ones out American style, no contest, and talked to a parrot before turning in.
