What do you know about this bike? Any idea where in France it was made? Lapedie was from Bayonne (the Basque region)

Roger Lapébie sold bikes after his professional career (as many did) and had them made in Saint-Étienne. They are often entry/mid-level bikes but quite reliable. He often used golden Mafac/Simplex components.
This one still has steel rims (may not be original by the way), would be better to change them to alloy rims.

Are those wheels 700c? It’s hard to tell even in the photo of the sidewall. I’m trying to persuade a local gentleman to sell me his Lapebie, but it’s a frame only and apparently takes a 650b. I love the head badge on some of the Lapebies I’ve seen. I guess I’ve seen more headbadges than bikes/frames even so I’m worried for the fate of those old bikes. There is a VHS tape that I encounter often with my saved eBay search, entitled “Keep Going Lapebie”. I’m tempted every time – apparently an account of his racing career some 50 years after competing. I’d just need a way to play it. Very Cool Bike !!
