My bike was skipping gears leading to me replacing the chain and rear cassette for the first time, after doing so the front cassette derailer now wont adjust outwards enough to be able to change my bike to 2nd gear (despite adjusting the Limit Screw with the correct cogs). The new chain now grinds against the rear pulley when in the small cogs on the rear cassette.

This bike has been a pain since I bought it, everything I do to it seems to cause another issue, especially with alignment, any tips?

Did you size the chain (it looks too long)? Have you replaced the cable and adjusted the tension properly with the barrel adjusters? Limit screws are rarely the problem. Once they are set, you should basically never have to touch them

When replacing a chain you should always have your front derailleur on the biggest ring on the front and smallest on the back, that way you get the correct length and tightness for the derailleurs to change up and down without issues. Likely your tension is too high

that chain is too long. If the limit screws of the FD are in fact correctly set up and the cage isn’t moving outward enough, you don’t have enough tension on the cable.

Park tool has great videos on both chain sizing and derailleur alignment.

I thought the bike was in a stand and this guy had installed his derailleur on top of the seat stay and I was equal parts shocked, impressed, and appalled.
