Have just noticed some kind of creasing either side of the valve hole on my carbon rim. The creases go maybe 10mm on one side and 5mm on the other. Is my rim cooked?

Yep, that’s not rideable. How old is it? Can you warranty it?

Do not ride on this rim.

  2. I saw that happen on a MTB road ride into Detroit around 10-15 or so years ago. The dude had one of the first MTB carbon wheel sets I remember ever seeing. We did a winter ride into Detroit with a group of 20 or so riders. He hit one of the regular Detroit potholes and got a flat tire. He fixed it and we all rode on. It kept losing air the rest of the ride and when we got into Royal Oak on the way back, we had no choice but to address it again. The rest of the group kept going because they wanted to get done and I stayed and helped him. During the repair process we noticed his rim broken at the stem hole. I can’t recall exactly how we fixed it, but we were around 5 miles from our cars and we made it without incident.
