  1. I just bought a 26″ Eastern for $400 brand new. Aluminum frame, disc brakes, wide handlebars. It is very solid for the price and they have 24/26 steel models for cheaper.

Bikes are a pretty personal thing, I’m sure he’d want to research and figure out what he’d actually want for an upgrade. Errands and fitness – sounds like a specialized sirrus x/ trek fx sport (or similar) with rack and fenders is the real dream bike. Maybe just get a bicycle bell and put it in a small box, then do some more research and shopping with him

  3. If he really like the look of a BMX bike, maybe look for like 26in or 29in cruisers. They would really fit the bill for an all-arounder bike, also those big wheel cruisers would save his knees for the long run.

24โ€ or 26โ€ haro has a killer deal with Black Friday. You could also look at Sunday or Kink. Check out all the mail order companies and search 24โ€ or 26โ€ bikes (for bigger dudes and adults). They still have all the aggressive bmx geometry but they are designed so you can sit down comfortably and hop curbs if you want.

It sounds like he could use something other than a bmx bike. Maybe a road bike or cruiser?

nice complete, we the people and Sunday both have some lovely looking stuff. All the best.
