Hi all.
I’ve had giant road bikes for years and don’t want to be ending up sticking with giant just because I like them.

Been looking at bikes for the son for Christmas. He will perfectly fit a small adult frame. So his giant ATX and frog bikes are now a thing of the past.

The three I can’t decide from are.
Grok has gave me good advice by the way but humans are far better to also rely on.

  1. Trek marlin 4 gen 3

  2. Giant talon 4

  3. Cube aim pro

  1. If your kid is actually going to be riding trails there may be better options. These are not far off rockhopper comp budget, you get a much better fork with the rockhopper. Shimano Mt200 brakes will require less and easier maintenance, 1×10 drivetrain with a wider gear range.

From the three you suggested the Giant at least has through axles and UDH, while not boost spaced still will be more upgradeable. It also seems to be the cheapest.

If you don’t do all the work on his/your bikes you are better buying a brand sold locally.

  2. What online sites are available to you in your area? What kind of trails do you think you would ride?

  3. Eyeing full suspension “Radon Slide Trail” 8.0 or 9.0 for myself:
    – carbon
    – through axle
    – pretty good suspension for the price. Either rockshox or fox if you feel fancy
    – 1×12 drivetrain either shimano or sram

I’d take 8.0 with shimano as it is cheaper and when something breaks, you can replace the broken parts with the better ones (or even the same parts if that suits your needs).
