Got a project bike and removed the most impossible bottom bracket I've ever experienced and looked down to find this. Is it possible to rethread the bb shell or is it trash?
You could just have the threads chased and it would be fine

This will clean up real easy like. That’s damage to an insignificant portion of the threads. Take it to a shop with a proper BB chasing tool and never think about it again.

you can chase those with a tap. or you could cut a groove across an old BB (provided you find a steel one) and use that as a single use tap to chase them too.

Buying and using a tap that size is expensive and hair raising if you’ve never done it before. Any local bike shop worth its salt will have the tools and experience to do this for you in a few minutes and not a lot of money. Call around and get a quote. Good luck it looks really easy to fix btw. You should be good as new when all is said and done.

I was lucky enough to have a brother in law with a bb tap the last time I had this problem I know they’re pricy but worth trying!

Nope just clean it

Yes it is possible to rethread the BB shell. A local bike shop will be able to do it for a small fee using the appropriate tap and BB alignment on a jig.
The problem with doing it yourself, even with the correct tooling, is making sure that the new tap is properly aligned with the opposite thread.
