This is a new Niner rlt steel 4 star bike.
Found the rear derailleur is loose in the frame and that set screw is fully seated. It seems that the head of the screw fits fully in the hole in the frame. Inserting the thru axle has been very difficult and is susceptible to cross threading. It seems like something is terribly wrong here.

Tightening the set screw does nothing to help this. I am in contact with the vendor but the bike was ordered online and it’s taking time.

Any insight into what’s going on here would be greatly appreciated.

Derailleur hanger is loose with no way to tighten.

  1. The thru axle should be bolting into that hanger. Is the axle actually in and tight?

The grub screw is only to hold it in position until the axle pulls it all together.

BTW, that cassette was assembled incorrectly. No spacer between 5 and 6. Two spacers between 9 and 10…

I had an issue like this. Take the wheel out, loosen the set screw on the hanger, and thread the axle in. You don’t need it tight, it won’t actually go tight without the wheel. Once the axle is threaded into the hanger, tighten the set screw. That will align the nut properly in the hanger. Then reinstall the wheel.

Niner is meant to be like that to easily get the wheel in and out, freaked me out on my wife’s old rlt, but when you tighten the thru axle it is fine. This is by design.
