  1. Yes, that’s the way it turns. And you may need a breaker bar, yes.

    And if you are putting the two levers (tool + crank arm) 180° opposite each other, like that, you’re going to have a real hard time putting enough force in with your arms. Put it at a much narrower angle and it’ll be easier to do.

  2. If it is really tough bust out the breaker bar and change your approach.

    I would take the bike off the stand, put the left pedal against a step stool, then sit on the rear tire. That way you can use your entire body weight and don’t need to worry about bracing the cranks.
