I’m not an expert on those brakes but I know that slow lever return in hydraulic brakes is a sign of the master piston struggling to return. In DOT systems this is usually caused by seals swelling as a result of the brake having been contaminated with incorrect fluid (mineral oil most frequently). Shimano IIRC uses mineral oil so I don’t know if the same thing can happen or if its something entirely different.
If it was me I would give the brakes a full bleed with whatever the manufacturer recommended fluid is and see if it fixes the issue.
Failing that I would look into servicing it with new seals and a new hose. However this is not always possible as some brakes are not serviceable and some brakes are uneconomical to service. In which case its new brake time.
