I recently got a great deal on an older s-works epic that has a 2×10 drivetrain. My initial plan was to upgrade it to a 1x, but I kind of like the 2x for its speed(my other bike is a 1×11 and it just tops out too low). It didn't quite have enough climb for my local steep spots so I just tried to change the small cog to a 22t(from a 24 tooth) and it seems like it just won't work. When the bike is in the big/big the chain/derailer is tight, and small/small it's hanging. Is there a rear derailer cage extension I can get? Or maybe I just drop the big front a bit and shorten the chain? Any other options out there?

You might need a longer derailleur cage to support that bigger gear range
Or you could just not ride in small small. There really is no reason to do that.
