Jesus, did you tape a mini-mag lite to the bars? Just do a search and buy Outbound. Don’t worry about breaking the bank, worry about breaking your face on a tree. Don’t cheap out on lights.

  2. ACID HPA 1300 helmet light – for 65€ on sale its almost a gift. Would need an additional extra battery for longer rides though

  3. I think Magic Shine overstate their lumens. Or it’s max but not sustained or whatever. I have a nice one and it’s very bright but not as bright as they claim. Magic Shine are still probably the best for the price. I found you can’t really buy cheap bright lights. So I went with Exposure MK12. Not cheap, but pretty light, durable and bright. The other contenders are Outbound and maybe Nite Rider.

Don’t worry about Lumen count, because it’s irrelevant when you purchase Outbound Lighting.

  5. Had Magicshine 6500v2 + the 3500 as a helmet light. Went to Outbound after having some reliability issues, the lights are maybe not the same blast of light as the magicshines but the light is so much better.

  6. And two of us would have slammed into a 14″ white fir log yesterday had we been foolish enough to ride our best local trail in the dark. No thanks, I’d rather sleep at night, rest up, and shred when I can see what Ma nature throws at me.

TAKE THIS ADVICE! A lot will say “it’s too heavy, it’s too bulky, it’s too bright!” Use a light bar, with bar mounts, connected to a battery adapter to power drill battery. Run this setup and thank me in the morning. Of course a helmet light too, but that’s usually only used for the climbs. NiLight sells wonderfully cheap pieces and packages if you’re looking for a one stop buy. If not piece it together at your local general/ag/outdoor store. Or you can ignore this and just say you hate riding at night with the artificial sun guiding your way.

Edit: also using an on/off switch won’t hurt.

  8. Nothing like hitting wet roots in the dark to remind you you’re alive.

I’ve done a fair amount of night riding with just 900 lumen nite rider bar light. Looking back it wasn’t the brightest idea but I didn’t have the money for anything nicer. Definitely worth investing in a good setup or changing your riding style to slower, line of sight riding.

  9. My trail is a tropical jungle , snakes , boars , deers and wild dogs , scary af at night

  10. Current opinion is you need a better light.

If you have good lights, night riding is fun as hell.
