Planning on upgrading my road bike to something more substantial, currently have an old TCR with a carbon frame. Marketplace seller does not want any lower than AUD$1200.

Should I even upgrade? I plan to ride longer distances and hilly terrain and my current TCR C2 2007 struggles a bit uphill and I’ve read CAAD frames are even lighter(?)

FYI: I find it hard to come by a proper frame size (48) for me (5’4”) and coming by a frame in this condition is pretty rare. So I don’t have many other options in terms of second hand.

  1. No deal, and not a meaningful improvement.

Is your problem uphill just that the bike is slow? I’ve got bad news for you… your legs and lungs are 90% of that. I also don’t think this is any lighter. You have a carbon frame bike. The CAAD10 is a famously light for being a Aluminium bike, but it is not lighter than many comparable carbon bikes. Whichever of your tcr and caad is lighter will come down to the wheelset mostly but I bet the TCR frame is lighter.

  2. I have the Ultegra 2011 model (I believe this is in the same year) and it rides beautifully. Stiff and responsive. HOWEVER, unless you’re coming from a hybrid with super high rolling resistance tires + weighs very heavy, you won’t get much of an improvement uphill as everyone would like to believe. You gotta train your legs and lungs.

Anyways, pricing wise – I’d bite at $900 CAD. Wouldn’t do $1200 AUD imo.
