I built a wheel! I was looking for a project and thought learning how to build a wheel would be fun. It was! Process was much easier than I anticipated and now I have a sweet new wheel with a dynamo hub to light up my winter commute. Now I just need a few friends to ask for one too so I can continue to hone my skills. If anyone is thinking of doing the same someday, I can’t recommend the Park Tools videos enough.

Nice job at wheel building and skill building.
I volunteer at a great place that refurbishes old bikes to distribute locally and around the world. This summer I noticed another volunteer truing a wheel–something I had never done. Despite putting 100k miles on various bikes and doing all my own maintenance, my wheels had never gotten out of true. I asked the other guy if he’d show me how to use the truing stand. He was a great teacher and it was far easier than I expected.
What light will you be pairing that dynamo with?
What rim is that? Archetype?
I love my dynamo set up. It’s sooooo nice to just get on the bike and never worry about charging.
