Hey,
I noticed small holes on my cr-mo 90s mtb and I was wondering if this is normal and safe?
My other bikes don’t have them.
Thanks!

Unless there are cracks or obvious signs of rust, the frame should be fine. Sometimes with welding there may be small faults or gaps in the weld line, these should be ground down, but in large factories this may not always happen. Then when it’s painted over you get small gaps or what appear to be holes. Should be fine though.

This sort of pinholing is typical of inexpensive bikes. I’ve never seen a bicycle main frame weld fail as a result of one. Ignore.

what frame?

It’s a welding error that ideally should have been ground out and redone, but at this point it’s already held for 30 years. I’d inspect it periodically like any other frame, watching for signs of failure like paint cracking, distortion, etc.
