I have a brand new Cube one44 with what they say is a Cube Dropper Post. This from the Cube website spec: CUBE Dropper Post, Handlebar Lever, Internal Cable Routing, 31.6mm I have a problem with it dropping while sitting on it and a mechanic that seems bewildered at understanding the mechanism.
Originally the post wouldnt stay down or up! So I took it back to the retailer a couple of weeks ago and they fixed it…and it was good for a couple of rides…now its back to dropping with my weight sitting on it.
Twice now Ive been caught out, an hour out on trail and have had to deal with a c#@& of a seat post for most of the ride that sinks as I sit on it. When I took it back that time to get fixed, I could tell that the mechanic did not know how to fix it because he said he “fiddled with it and it wasnt cooperating but then I loosened it and it just came good”. Not “oh I had to tighten torque screw 1 and loosen torque screw 2” or anything like that. Anyway I cannot find any user manual or engineering diagram on this post to have a go at fixing it myself.
The 2 screw “configuration” (for lack of a better word) is nothing like Ive seen on any other bikes. Does anyone else have any experience with these Cube branded dropper posts? What are these screws controlling? The mechanic / retailer is 50km away so looks like Ive got another f-ing 100km round trip to a guy that doesnt know exactly whats wrong or how to fix it.

  1. I assume they are an integrated seat clamp. To keep the post in place rather than an actual seat clamp. The 2 bolts will most likely push a wedge or shim that pushes against the post

  2. Yeah this looks like a “wedge” type seatpost clamp. It is pretty dumb to use that on a mtb as the only selling point is aesthetics.

I suspect you are to slowly torque each screw up a little at a time, switching between them to ensure the wedge is pushing evenly. The 3-5 range is what they expect to hold the post.
