Apologies up front, you probably see a million of these posts but it will really help.
New cyclist here, about to purchase 1st bike and have narrowed it down to 2 entry level bikes.
A bit of background for context.
– 51 year old male, slightly overweight but fitter than some other Guys my age but not by much.
– Will mostly road ride, but have a mild interest in off-road easy trails. Mountain pathways, bridleways etc. no throwing myself down rocky mountain descents.
– Would prefer flat pedals, but will likely swap over to clipless when i get in to it
– I really like the having only 1 gear cog at the front, have been reading about cross chaining and don't want to manage that as a beginner
Thanks for any input!

From these, I’d go for the gravel one, if only because it is known to be compatible with 40mm.
I value both drivetrains equally, brakes are about the same, and a drop bar gives a few positions the flat one does not.
I would definitely go for the gravel bike. It will be the more versatile option, within the range of activities you’re looking at.
What size are you? The Boardman would be the best of the two, more modern standards.
