I'm about as bike illiterate as you can get and I changed a chain for the first time. It's skipping and clicking when I spin the pedals. It's an 8 soeed road bike. Chain is KMC X8.

To clarify, it seems ok on the largest rear cog, but on the smallest rear cog it seems like the chain jumps/ skips
Looks long to me. Go watch the Park Tool video on YT.
You can shorten that chain at least a link.
