Conscious choice to use grip shifters is certainly interesting. There has to be a better option.

I am absolutely fascinated and stoked by this build. It’s even more enjoyable reading the volunteer officer picklestein comments saying you can’t do that.

Be careful OP, cutting into the handlebars like that probably weakened them structurally.
Handlebars take a-lot of torque while riding and the chances of them snapping on you is way up there now.

Don’t ride these bars if you value your life. Drilling into your handlebars is bad enough, but cutting into it with a torch completely destroyed the material composition ant structural integrity of the tube. These are either cold formed or heat treated, which both treatments are effectively removed. Don’t try to reinforce them with other pipes, you will never be able to make it strong enough. All of this really is not worth your safety, but if you’re adamant you better invest in good insurance.

I was just thinking of starting a thread called “Predictions for the surprising new X-biking trends of 2026” and the return of Gripshifts was on there! But I never could have predicted they’d be mounted to lead water pipes and bolted through bullhorns bars! Not on my Bingo card!

The only things it’s missing is some glass glued to the handlebars for extra grip and danger
