If it’s only surface corrosion it’s still salvageable, as long as the integrity of the frame isn’t compromised.

  2. It’s already stage 1 klunked, time to go enjoy…

get the bb and wheels turning, new tubes and tires and motor oil on the chain and your good to go

Stage 2 would be bmx bars, a rasket, and sir William bonkers but let’s not get ahead of ourselves

Do it! Get some chemical rust remover (try not or use the paste generally, it also takes off paint and is really hard to remove completely) and address the rust. Then have fun building and riding as you want.

Pull the seatpost, fork, and crank and look into the frame as much as possible. Probably little interior rust, but need to be sure. If okay, you have received ways to treat the exterior in other posts.

  5. In my completely non professional opinion this one is far from gone. Its actually kind of sweet spot klunker.

Every “klunk” is too far gone to klunk. I wouldn’t seriously take a klunker to a mountain bike trail. 1930’s-50’s steel/geometries shouldn’t be trusted for anything other than cruising around town

When I see your pic, I hear an audible “klunk”

This is about a klunky as a bike can get.

    Good find .👍

  8. Put a phone camerae into the head tube and seat tube. If you see flaky bits, not great. If it’s smooth, you’re good to go.

Spray that with a rust converter and some clearcoat and you’ve got a perfect rat rod aesthetic.
