Hi everyone.

Putting new cables and housing on my 2013 road bike (along with a new groupset).

Before I get to installing the actual shift cables and adjusting the derailleurs, I figured I’d ask if my cable routing looks okay?

I found myself in an unfortunate situation where I couldn’t just match the previous housing lengths. The STI on the bike were Claris with the housing that comes directly out of the side of the lever, the new are 105 with the housing routed under the bar tape. Likewise, the brake housing couldn’t just be matched as the previous owner had some of those auxiliary brakes mounted on the top of the bar, so the housings were in several pieces.

I’m pretty sure the brakes are good. I’ve got them all adjusted and when I turn the bars 90 degrees to both sides it’s not making the calipers move at all.

Thanks in advance.

Just check for range of motion as you rotate the bars from side to side. Go all the way to both extremes in case the bike falls over and the bars turn too far. If the cables don’t pull, you are good. It takes quite a bit of experience to fine tune them, so a little long is preferable.

Rear derailleur cable (last photo) looks perfect.

Nervous Rush seat said about cable length, I’ll add a different thing: I’d tape your cables tighter to the bar, exactly where you want them to sit when you’ve got bar tape on. You don’t want to be trying to push your cables into the right spot with your bar tape, that makes wrapping the tape more difficult than it has to be.

I’d personally run my front brake cable in front of the others, but that’s personal preference. What you’ve done is fine.
