I have a Cube one44 with what they say is a Cube Dropper Post. This from the Cube website spec: CUBE Dropper Post, Handlebar Lever, Internal Cable Routing, 31.6mm
I have a problem with it dropping while sitting on it. Originally it wouldnt stay down or up! So I took it back to the retailer a couple of weeks ago and they fixed it…for a while…now its back to dropping with my weight sitting on it. Twice now Ive been caught out, an hour out on trail and have had to deal with a c#@& of a seat post for most of the ride. When I took it back that time, I could tell that the mechanic did not know how to fix it because he said he “fiddled with it and it wasnt cooperating but then I loosened it and it just came good”. Not “oh I had to tighten torque screw 1 and loosen torque screw 2” or anything like that. Anyway I cannot find any manual on this post to have a go at fixing it myself. The 2 x torque screw “configuration” (for lack of a better word) is nothing like Ive seen on any other bikes. Does anyone else have any experience with these Cube branded dropper posts? The mechanic / retailer is 50km away so looks like Ive got another f-ing 100km round trip to a guy that doesnt know exactly whats wrong or how to fix it.

  1. It sounds like the cable is being pulled, causing the seat to drop/rise depending on it being weighted.

Have you checked if the cable is frayed in the lever?

Does the lever snap back firmly and immediately when you release it? Or is it spongey?

  2. Aren’t the 1 and 2 bolts for clamping the seat post? I guess you tighten them alternatingly like you do fotlr stem bolts so both bolts get tightened to the right torque.

The dropper issue is different to getting the seat post clamped correctly.

Probably a cable issue – it’s partially activating the release through sticking of the cable itself or something pulling on the housing. Try lowering the seatpost temporarily (maybe 1/2 inch) to see if the problem goes away.
