I realized the rims on my stumpjumper were only 15mm ID and wondered if that contributed to it feeling less stable than my modern bike when leaned in tight corners, etc. I went with Orange Velo Voyager rims laced to my XTR hubs. Can confirm they definitely feel more stable ;). Maybe I’ll go tubeless in the spring.

I also swapped (before upgrading wheels) to Humptulips Ridge from Mars JFF. The Humptulips feel like they roll better on pavement and are more damped/smoother. I haven’t taken them off road to report on that. A great change for how I use this bike!

Both upgrades are Wildly overkill of course.

Damn I’d just convinced myself I didn’t need to build two new tubeless wheelsets for my vintage bikes with super narrow rims. 😠
