I am considering using this bike to participate in a Standard Distance (Olympic) Triathlon. My goal is simply to finish the race, not to achieve a competitive time.

The seller is asking for around 250€ / 280$. I live in eastern Europe

Rear Derailleur: Shimano Sora RD-R3000 GS
Brakes: Shimano Tiagra BR-4500
Crankset: Shimano Tiagra FC-4500 50-34 (Compact)
Cassette: Microshift 11-34
Handlebar: 420mm

 Recent Maintenance
The bicycle received a full service during the summer. All the following parts were replaced:
Cables and Housings (Inner and Outer)
Tires (Currently Vittoria Zaffiro Pro V)
Handlebar Tape

He said he would change the tires though. Apparently they got some " cracks" 2 months after he started using them.

  1. In the US at least, that bike would only be worth half of that asking price. You can definitely do worse, but you can also probably do a lot better for the money

  2. Proper-Ad-2585 on

If this fits you, this would be a fine bike for triathlon training and racing.

If you want some cheap speed then put in latex or quality tpu tubes in the new, better tyres. Zaffiro are very cheap tyres. Rubino ‘mid range’ and Corsa are the ‘race’ tyres. Money spent on tyres is sensible. With Corsas (or other brand equivalents) this will ride better than a $1500 new bike with old Zaffiros.
