  1. someone tried and bailed. They used a disc grinder with a cutoff wheel from looks of it (not the plastic melting).

    Time for a new lock and/or a new lockup point. Good job kryptonite lock, did it’s job. It can now retire.

    Definitely an attempt saw/blade situation that they gave up on maybe someone saw em and chased em off, it helps to use 2 locks like a ulock and a chain because more effort and time to cut more stuff is a deterrent to thieves, and probably duct tape over that so it doesn’t give people ideas or draw attention to your bike for future potential thieves

    Looks like it was probably attacked by a *Dromonem manu*. They’ve become more common with the advent of ebikes, the increase in their preferred prey has caused a boom in their population, but they’ll still go after their analog prey as well.

  4. Could be something your own tire did to it technically. I have a cable lock with marks like that where I wore it down when I wasn’t paying attention to how it was stored. So, just eliminate that possibility for yourself.
