In this video, I take you along with me as I explore the Aldi store close to my house. I am not that familiar with Aldi, I probably stopped in 3 or 4 over the years in the US, so I am not sure of the pricing comparison. Let me know what you think of the pricing in the comments below.
I was very surprised as to the size of the store and how clean and organized it was (compared to my experiences in the US). I would definitely go back to this store. On this stop, I just picked up a package of paper towels (roughly 4 Euros) and a frozen pizza (roughly 4 Euros).

Bonjour y’all. It’s uh just taking you today on a uh just going to be doing a voice over for this because the obviously the music in the background. Don’t want to have any copyright issues. But I’m going to the Aldi that’s nearby my house here in uh Perpon. It’s actually probably technically in Capistani uh uh the uh the little town that’s right next door to to Pepin. Essentially like a suburb. But, uh, I just wanted to show you what the, uh, Aldi contents look like. And when you see the pricing, uh, they’re obviously going to be in euros. But, um, I kind of do some easy math for this, maybe add 20% to it, and that’s what the dollar equivalent would be for it. Um, at the time of doing this video, the, um, exchange rate, I think, was around 86 cents uh, per uh, per US dollar, 86 euro cents per US dollar. So, just to try to make it a little bit easier because there’s going to be a little bit of fees and things like that that get assigned to it. But if you just take these prices and add 20% um that’ll get you roughly what the dollar equivalent is for it. And um but I just want to take you around the store. I will say that uh what what surprised me the most. I’ve been in a couple of Aldi’s in the United States and uh this one here I as I recall this this one was so clean and organized that I just was really surprised by it. The uh and maybe it’s just the timing that I hit. Maybe they had just done some some work to um stock the shelves and things of that sort. But um I was just amazed, I guess, as to how clean and organized the store was versus what I’d seen in the United States where they tended to just be people just putting things kind of randomly back and, you know, boxes were empty and, you know, just it just seemed to be much more disorganized. But again, that could have been when I was going through the store in the United States, it could have just been the wrong time of the week to to go to the Aldi. So, um, but I just was it just really what what took me back with this was the selection of things. Like we’re going through the pasta aisle here and um, you know, it’s not like it’s, you know, 40 different pasta types, but it really was surprising to me the the the range that they had. And, uh, and again, I’m not really sure how this pricing looks, but I mean, for a goodiz back bag of, you know, dried macaroni, I just was surprised it’d be like a dollar uh, for that. So, and then they had obviously pestos and tomato sauces and uh things like that to go along with it. But I just like I said, I just was amazed by the kind of the selection that they had. And these prices, you’ll have to tell me in the comments if you find that these prices are better than what you’ve uh what you’ve seen in the United States. Of course, some of these things like these, you know, mousans are not going to be uh available in the US, but um you know, I just it just surprised me. So, in a positive way, obviously. Well, there’s something that’s kind of randomly left behind, but um and then this is some rice options. And I’m not going to try to I mean, you have eyes, so you can see what what it what it’s actually looking at here. But, um I just was surprised like the different types of rice that they had. Um I think this was lentil. Yeah, this these are lentils. And um and then these were pretty goodized cans of ravioli. uh beef ravioli. Um I’ve never tried them so I don’t know how good they are or not but I mean you see by the grade on the bottom of the can it’s a B level which again is pretty good and they they do a pretty good job of trying to identify what the health quotient is for these things. So this is what $219. So that would be roughly $260 $2.60 roughly uh for that. This is a uh paella couscous paella. Um which and I’ll get my hand off the the top there so you can see it. But um you know for 370 so that would be another what.75. So maybe 450 for that you know can of that. These are a pretty good size selection of honeys. um you know so we’ll just kind of glance through these and then these are going to be some I believe these are preserves. Yeah, I’m just getting more jams down below. But like I said, I just was surprised as how clean and organized these. And the other thing that surprised me, and maybe this is not so surprising to people that shop at Aldi all the time, but was the Trader Joe’s label on things. There were several items they had Trader Joe’s labels on. And um you know, so I thought that was interesting as well. And I think these were just some coffee coffee options. Again, I’m not a coffee drinker, so I don’t know if these are decent prices or not. I will say that I did go through the um I did stop in at the the soda aisle, and uh I thought that the pricing that they had for their um Coke Zeros were higher than what I found at the inner Marartian. And so, here’s kind of a glance at the store. Very large store. And they do have the typical Aldi things where they do have an area where it’s just all kinds of various bits and pieces of whatever type, you know, slippers and bits of clothing or some other odd, you know, odds and ends of things. This is the kind of the yogurt area and some desserts. And u there’s one I think I’m going to pick it up here. It’s an egg cream dessert. It looked Yeah, this is it for you know $149 for one €150. um that looked really good. I didn’t end up buying it, but um looked really really good. And I will say, like I said in other videos, is that the the packaged food uh kind of found here so far has been really good quality versus what um you know, kind of the packaged food options you typically get in the US. Uh you know, just just something I noticed with this some yogurts here. Uh they do have some you like Greek yogurt options and then get toward butters at the at the end. People typically ask me about uh you know what they have for beer things of that sort. I don’t drink so I don’t know if these prices are you know good for a box of beer or if they’re not. So I think I showed the box of Heineken and the pricing. Oh, come on. 535 it looks like for a box of that Heineken. So, but like I said, you y’all will have to tell me if that’s if that’s a good price or not. I don’t I don’t know. But they had quite a selection of beers here. So, I’m trying to avoid showing people. Oh, and you see my big purchase there. Paper towels. Very exciting shopping day here. Oh, they had a a really nice selection of chrysanthemums and some other fall flower type things. I thought those were those were nice. And I think these are going to be like snack well petite pens. So they’re like crusted bread crusty bread. Some snacks. Oh, there’s some chocolates. I’m not really that much into the uh those types of, you know, kind of sweet snacks type thing. Now, cookies I could do I could do my do some damage on cookies, but uh I mean these prices seem to be pretty reasonable for for what they are and we’re kind of toward the the front again where and in France they have to identify the origin of the the product. So that’s why you’ll see France and Spain and Brazil and things like that on the the fruit and vegetables. And they had a really nice selection. I think I’m going to be showing it here of the breads and some of the uh vinaseries that they have where the kind of the the sweet baked goods and um you know this is a nice setup and this was remarkable to me too and again I sound like this is all like super surprising but and this may be in the Aldi’s in the US but just the like this is pork the pork section here and then I’ll move over to these are the chipalitas which are the sausages um that they have and those are those are really good. Looks like some tomatoes with something in them. I’m not a big tomato fan, so it’s those weren’t of interest. But uh but like the ground beef and all that, it’s not, you know, those are obviously going to be pretty common. But I just was surprised again as to the the variety of packaging that they had for this. I believe these are chicken and some other bits. Um yeah, that’s going to be more chicken chicken options. some chicken nuggets. I’m not super keen on chicken nugget type things, but the uh but things like fish sticks, those I can those I can demolish. That I think is like 15 pieces of uh uh pork chops and u which I thought was very reasonable for that. I you know, of course, that’s obviously more for a family or some sort of party get together. Those look to be kind of fish kind of like a fish and chip style fish. And then those are turkey breasts I’m showing there, which is probably what we’ll end up doing for uh for Thanksgiving, just having a small small meal back here at the house. But um and then this is just more fish options that they have and just a a wide selection of fish bits, things like that. And this is more kind of a fresher uh pasta pasta options. And then a whole bunch of pizzas. I did end up buying one of these pizzas because I did want to try it out. That’s one thing that’s been a little a little hard to find. There’s a couple of places here in Perpon that have decent pizza. Um but I just it’s it’s really hard to find things that are not like a bunch of stuff on there that I don’t particularly care for. And so I did find one that was kind of a beef and cheddar uh pizza. But I have to say it wasn’t it wasn’t the worst pizza I’ve ever had, but it certainly was not not not super good. And this is in the frozen section. So, kind of some more pizza options. They have different types of pizzas. I think I pulled this one out. This is not the one I ended up buying. Um, but it’s a pizza bologn. Was this the pizza bolognes? Yes. Yes, that’s the pizza bologn. So, um, which maybe I should have gone for that one. That might have been better than just the beef and cheddar, but it wasn’t, like I said, wasn’t horrible. It’s just I wouldn’t buy it again. So, some creps and then, of course, kind of the standard pizza on some sort of bread or well, meats and cheese on some sort of bread. This looked interesting. Um, if I wasn’t walking back to the house, I probably would have tried this out, but a carbonara, frozen carbonara for 450, which would be roughly 550 maybe for in there. And then the lasagnas, which I would imagine are pretty good. Um, but I probably will try one of those out during the winter. Uh, see what that’s like. They look good. And then a bunch of other little frozen bits here that they had. the meatballs, which I haven’t tried those yet. We might might give those a try in a little bit. Cheeseburgers, which I think it would be a little weird having them. I I did see people buying them, but it just seems a little weird with like having the bun and all that with it. So, I don’t know how how well that turns out if it’s not something that turns out super wet. But, they must have been all right cuz people were buying them. This looks to be some more frozen pork. um like pork chops. Those are 5.75 for that pack. And then starts getting into like burger patties, frozen burger patties. You might hear Miss Freya meowing in the background here. She decided now, of course, every time I start talking, she thinks I’m talking to somebody and it should be her. So, um, and these some chicken patties, which I thought were interesting, too. And then the fish, um, the frozen fish patties and whatnot. Now, now, as a child, I we we had fish stickicks a lot. These look actually like they’re pretty good. Um, and certainly $2.29 sound like a reasonable price. I didn’t buy these, but just wanted to show them to you. like their a you know a standard for for kind of healthy healthy rating they have here in France which I mean you I can’t imagine they’re going to be like oh this is something you can lose weight with but you know at least they’re they seem to be healthier type thing and then of course regular fish fillets cods and whatnot that they have supposedly Alaskan cod there which I imagine it is they’re not going to mislabel these things and then there’s some salmon options and looks like it’s pre-made salmon dishes, but the prices seem very very reasonable for that. I’m just always afraid buying frozen food and then walking back to the house. I know that they’re they’re not going to thaw in, you know, a 10-minute walk, but I just uh just always have some concern. And then, of course, there’s the the kind of the ice cream selections that they have and dessert dessert things. They did have a brand that I recognized which were the Magnum chocolates. Um, but I don’t remember how much those were in the US. So, if someone can mention, you know, the price comparison. Oh, there’s Snickers, too, but like 290 for a box of them. I guess they go up a little higher for those other ones, that other style. But um but no, I like I said overall with the Aldi and I think I’m going to be turning around here. So there’s like laundry detergent, some cleaner, household cleaners and that and here’s kind of like what you what you typically expect at an Aldi and a Lle is, you know, the kind of the rows of just random random things that they put out there. So I didn’t walk through that area just cuz it’s like everybody has seen. I mean it always changes. So there’s not really much point in showing that. So, but this is the area that has the laundry detergent in it and household products. Supine is the fabric fabric softener. But any case, now I wanted to show you like the prices. Then there’s the conversion rate. Here’s what the different milk types they have. And what and it’s still strange to me to see them not refrigerated, but uh and then I’m just showing you pictures now of the various fruits and vegetables that they had and the prices where they’re located where where they came from. I guess like that’s from South Africa. We’ve got some uh plums from France probably from the Aen area. Um and then grapes of course they got these are from Italy. But I just wanted to kind of showcase you what the what the products look like. I wanted to get this kind of montage at the end. And uh oh, and they also had wraps from Trader Joe’s, which I thought were interesting. I’m going to have to do those for another fajita night and give those a try. But anyway, I hope you I hope you enjoyed the trip through through uh Aldi here. And I’m going to be doing some other trips through some of the local stores and um we’ll just get those up here as soon as I can. Anyway, hope everyone’s doing well. We’ll talk to you’all later.

Aldi have the same concept how the stores are styled but in the US Aldi is nothing like the European ones all better and healthier then compared in the US , The Aldi stores in the UK are 3 times the size compared to ones in France,
Aldi's which is a couple blocks from me is small and limited with some of their products. I usually buy just a few things from produce and meat isles even though I've seen people fill an entire grocery cart. I have to go to another store for products they don't carry.
Hi Jeff! Some Aldi trivia – Aldi split into two separate entities about 60-odd years ago, Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud. Aldi Nord operates in France and most of Atlantic Europe. The UK and American stores are operated by Aldi Sud. Aldi Nord is the parent company of Trader Joes in the US.
Bonjour, Jeff! Merci, for the Aldi overview walk along. I've shopped Aldi in Germany, Ireland, Scotland (which sells Whisky), and now the U.S. (1/4 mi from me). As you noted, I found the EU Aldi's where I shopped were much larger, cleaner, organized, with a wider variety of international products. My favorite shop in Ireland, & now also in Atlanta, is Lidl, which is Aldi's direct competitor. In my town in Ireland the Aldi & Lidl were literally back-to-back. Some of Aldi brand products are outstanding; you just have to try them and decide what you like. The prices at your Aldi seem comparable to mine in Atlanta…before the +20% currency conversion! 😥
Such a beautiful store. Pricing seems to be on par once you add the conversion with South Florida, USA Aldis. Except for the beer, which was less expensive than in the US.
Okay Jeff, I'm going a bit off topic here, so please feel free to ignore this. I'm posting from Aix, and I've been here for five days. Have you eliminated this city from your potential "move to" list because of the summer heat, or are there other reasons? From what I've seen it ticks off all the boxes you've mentioned in other videos, so I'm curious.
You are so good to us with these informational videos 🎉
I love Aldi & Lidl
C'est le contraire Jeff.
Il faut enlever 15 ou 20% pour avoir le prix en dollars.
1 euros = 1.25 dollars.
Donc 1 produit affiché 0.85 euros est égal à 1 dollar 😊
The stores here in France are so much fresher and cleaner. The Aldi chain in the USA is just….. awful compared to France. For many years, I refused to go to Aldi after going to the ones in Chicago's south side. They literally have everything in boxes on the floor. It took me a long time to go back to an Aldi- something like 24 years.
There's Aldi north and Aldi south in Germany. They both operate in the U.S. but one of them has to use the name Trader Joe"s. In France we only have one of the Aldi's but there are quire a few Trader Joe's products in them.
Bonjour Jeff. Could you please explain how the health quotient works? I'm not familiar with this. Merci!
I have allergy to peanuts but almonds & other nuts fine. Have you ever seen almond butter? Thanks for video.
Prices??? You don't show the size or weight of the things you are showing. No way to compare!
Have you ever been to a Picard store there?
I'm not sure how I feel about paella in a can.👀
Fun! Prices seem very reasonable.
Lots and lots of very unhealthy foods!
The Aldi near me in northwest Phoenix is immaculate and very popular. Stop downing all things American. I’m in France at the moment and there’s dirty places here too.
Did Miss Freya enjoy her Aldi tour? (kidding) ❤
The country of origin on agricultural products is mandatory in the US also. Trader Joe's has the same parent family as Aldi. I've not seen beer in US East Coast Aldi stores; they typically have lots of wine. I don't drink alcohol but occasionally buy a bottle of one of Aldi's signature wines to cook with for about $3. Your prices seemed higher on the other items than what I've experienced in the US… though prices are certainly higher in highly-populated areas compared to my more rural area. I don't buy or consume any of the ultra-processed foods from any store because they are garbage to me. I don't recall ever seeing an Aldi store in France so thanks for the tour. The US Aldi stores I've shopped at for the last 15 or so years have been very clean, bright and organized.
Your Aldi is huge compared to mine in Oklahoma! Refuse to shop at Walmart here. Thank you for taking us along!
11:11 Hi Jeff ! Try to steer clear of those processed frozen meals. I get that you might not feel like cooking, and if you're looking for ready-made dishes ("des plats préparés") you can just heat up, go for a good local butcher-delicatessen-caterer ("boucher-charcutier-traiteur"). Ask your neighbors in Perpignan for their recommendations — they’ll know the best spots.
These places usually prepare traditional French dishes like blanquette de veau, stuffed cabbage, lasagna, hachis parmentier, beef bourguignon, rabbit with mustard, Basque-style chicken, and more. Many of them rotate their menu weekly or seasonally, so there’s always something new to try. And around Christmas, they often offer some truly special options.
You’ll quickly find that in France, buying from a charcutier-traiteur is far more satisfying than anything you’ll get at a supermarket !
You're right…my Aldi's in the states is unkept and disorganized. Could just be my area however. The other issue with my particular store is that local restaurant owners buy up the produce as soon as the store opens, leaving only the rejected produce behind for regular shoppers. These restaurant owners then march up to the cash register with boxes and boxes of the best of everything, and no one in management imposes a quantity limit. By 930am the produce is scattered around the bins in a huge mess. I finally stopped shopping there altogether.
All 3 of the Aldis close to me always look like they have been hit by a tornado. I like many of their products, but I do not shop there. I have been to a few in France, as well. Some were lovely and some I was tempted to report to the local health department! LOL! It really seems that the store management really determines what the store is like with Aldis. You are lucky to have a good one there by you!
