  1. Yes drilling is a horrible idea. Especially because you can bend and twist that little end bracket so it bolts right to one of the rack mount braze-ons down the seat stays.

If that asymmetry bothers you, flip it and twist it 90° and thread the seatpost binder QR through it

  2. does the chain hit the bolt when you’re in your small cog? I don’t think that mounting it to the inside of the eyelets is ideal.

But I’d put a pclamp around the bridge and bolt to that.

If you must use this rack, I feel like you’d be better off with a long bolt between the rack eyes for your rack tab to rest on. Then you could tie-wire it in place or something.

  4. clamps, zipties, and frame alterations are all horrible ideas. simply buy the correct rack that bolts to the fittings that are already on the frame. Anything else is janky unless you can do machining.

  5. I’d make a u shaped piece out of flat bar stock with holes on the ends and a hole in the center.

I’d get the correct rack that will work better than this one because your frame has the correct rack mounts on the stays. Mounting this rack will not be very solid and will damage the paint on the stay bridge.

I can’t imagine a scenario where I would be that committed to a rear rack which is actually realistic, but a P Clamp from Homme Despot on a shelf near their Electrical section is what I’d be getting.

  8. You’re going to need a longer bracket arm.

Once you have a longer one you can twist it 90° and bend it so that it lines up with one of the rack braze one on the inside. Those braze ons are threaded all the way through so just get a long Allen or t-handle and stick it through the other side braze on and screw the bolt in that way. I do it on my Lynskey when I put the rack on it every so often.

  9. How much weight are you looking at putting on the rack? I would look at the racks from Old Man Mountain. They have several fit kits that will we work on your bike.

I’d buy a different cheap rack that actually mounts to your existing rack eyelets. Four points of contact is going to be stronger than three and you’ll notice the load less when you’re riding around with whatever you’re putting on it. Drilling a hole won’t lead to frame failure, I just can’t imagine why you’d go through the trouble for a “meh” rack.

  11. get a y bracket or make one, even a dodgy v brace.

it’ll probably cause an issue, but hey.. not my issue
