Paris is a lot of fun, but it’s easy to make expensive mistakes if you’re not careful. So, in this video, we’re going to share with you 12 ways people waste money when they are in Paris. And we’re not doing this alone. We’ve asked our private community and our Facebook group with over 300,000 members to share ways that they’ve wasted money in Paris. And then we’ll share our thoughts on. All right. So Tina says, “Wish we wouldn’t have bought the week metro pass other than the trip from the airport and one to and from Disney. We walked everywhere.” You know, it’s funny because I’ve created videos about, you know, you should buy the metro pass cuz it’s the better deal. But I totally get it. Like unless you’re going to be using the metro at least a couple of times a day or probably two to three times a day, it’s not a good deal. Paris is a very walkable city. And what happens is people realize that they can walk from one point to the other without taking the metro. So the metro pass, unless you’re going to be using it a lot, is probably a waste of money. Here’s one from Diana. I bought the Paris Pass and didn’t find it a good value versus paying all cart. Perhaps if we were the type of traveler who had a full itinerary of museums, it would have been better. I agree. We tried the Paris Pass with two and three museums a day. It was exhausting, but if you’re the kind of person who does that sort of thing, the value is there. If you’re not, allocart is going to be the way to go. The next one is about the audio tours in the museum, and we’ve got quite a few of those. Eileen said, “The headset tours at the Louv were a waste of money.” Sarah said, “The Versail audio tour. It’s only a few bucks, but the device was terrible.” And then Karen said, “The audio tour at the Pantheon.” I think you’re getting the trend here. The audio tours in the museums in Paris often suck. I’ve seen Colleen getting it and the thing is supposedly in English and it’s not really and it’s difficult to track and it doesn’t know which room you are. Most often it’s a waste of money. If you’re going to invest some money, get actually an real guide to show you around, but the audio guides are not good. This one’s from Kelly. We took a bike catamaran ride for less than a mile on our first day in Paris and they charged us β¬35. And Betsy says, “Pettic cab, easy to get ripped off.” Now, I’m betting that both of them are talking about those little tuk tuk rides that people come up and offer you all the time around the big attractions. And yes, they’re so easy to get ripped off. Like, I get it. Walking around Paris, your feet hurt cuz you’ve done 20,000 steps, but there’s so many better ways to get around. Call a cab, call an Uber, sit in a cafe, and rest. But those tuk tucks, just a waste of money. By the way, we put together a free download cheat sheet so you can find ways to not waste money in Paris. There’s a link in the description below or scan the QR code. This one is from Judy. My most wasted money was Madame Brassri at the Eiffel Tower. Both the experience and the dinner. And Christine Bliss said, “Julu Vern was nice, but not worth the money for me.” I kind of have to agree. Those restaurants, I think that about half of what you’re paying is for the location. Juul Verns has a great reputation of being an extraordinary restaurant. I believe it’s a one macaron Micheland. So, you’re going to get great food, but you are paying quite a hefty price for being on the Eiffel Tower. And I think that for a lot of people, it’s going to be a waste of money. Go up the Eiffel Tower and save your money for a nice restaurant that is not as much as a tourist strap at these two on the Eiffel Tower. This one’s from Melanie. The chai latte at Angelina’s in the Louv cost a fortune and I couldn’t even drink it. It was pure cinnamon. This is a personal pet peeve of mine because I have heard for years you have to go to Angelina. Like this is Coco Chanel and you know all of the famous stuff from the tea salon way back when. We tried it. The hot chocolate was okay. Nothing special. The white hot chocolate was so bad I couldn’t drink it. And it’s old dated decor. It’s, you know, squish like cattle call. For me, it was an outdated time where people are trying to relive it. Sorry if that’s your thing. Sorry if it’s on your bucket list. But for me, Angelina’s is a total waste of time and a total waste of money. Now, Carrie says, “I feel like Versailles was a waste of money. It’s so crowded, it’s hard to enjoy it.” And I have to agree with Carrie. We are actually annual pass members for Versailles, but we avoid Versailles like the plague during tourist season for this exact reason. It’s so crowded. There’s no air conditioning. Of course, it’s a 300-year-old palace. It is just not enjoyable unless you’re there in offse. And for a lot of people, I’m afraid that it’s going to be a waste of money and time to go to Versailles in high season. And there are alternate beautiful castle like Fontenblau Volvik and Shantiier that have hardly anybody there in season and you’re going to get the castle experience. It’s not Versail but it’s still very beautiful. Here’s one from Gregorio. Taking one of those hop on hop off buses. They cost well over $70 now and line 69 of the Paris bus system covers almost all of the same stuff for β¬2. You know, if you’re getting on a hop- on hop off bus, you kind of have to know that you are going to be in the right spot. Find the locations and everything. There’s a lot that goes with it. And 70 bucks is a lot because there’s so much you can see. We did one on the Batau bus, which is the boat hop on hop off, which kind of combines a little river cruise with the hop- on hop off. But the big buses, I tend to agree the hop- on hop off bus is not my go-to. I think it’s a waste of money. Another way that people waste money in Paris is by choosing unreliable tour operators. So, we’ve put together a list of our favorite tour guides in Paris. There’s a link in the description below or you can scan this QR code and get to a list of people that we trust and recommend. Check it out and see if it’s a good fit for you. Next one is from Cara. β¬11 glass of lemonade for the kids at lunch. We should have looked at the menu when the kids ordered it, but we were quite shocked when the kids drink receipt which β¬55 for bottled lemonade. And Katherine said, “We ordered bottled water and sparkling water at restaurants the first few days. Drinks really added up at our party when we were dining out.” So, here’s the thing. Lemonade is going to be very expensive in Paris. You’re thinking if you’re coming from the US, oh, I’m getting lemonade for the kids. It’s going to be cheap. Not in France. It’s actually pressed lemon juice. So, it’s actually a very expensive things. Cocktails are very expensive in Paris. A bottle water can add up because you can get a car of water which is free. So, before you order stuff, assuming it’s going to be cheap, especially if it’s for the kids, look on the menu first so you don’t get a nasty surprise. And sometime you’re going to feel like you’re wasting money on drinks like if you had known you would have never done that. Here’s one from Pamela. Colleen, the only thing I would do differently is to share more meals if I had a traveling companion. I did typically take my leftovers back to my Airbnb. You know, a lot of people worry about sharing meals in Paris. And I know it used to be a big thing, but today they’re catching up with the rest of the world. We share meals in Paris, and you can share meals in Paris. If you don’t want to eat that much, don’t. And one of the things we often do is with the formal meals, we’ll get two formules where we’ll share an appetizer, share a dessert, and we both get a mane. Or, you know, you can do it however you want, but this is some place that you can save money because you don’t have to spend more on food than you want. The next one is from K. The neck pillow cushion I bought at Montreal airport. Don’t know why I thought I needed one. I used it perhaps one minute and then had to carry it. I couldn’t agree more. I never understand why people are buying the travel gear in an airport. It’s two to three times more expensive than you would buy it online. And most of the stuff is not really good. I’m going to put a link in the description below to our travel gear. You can buy any of the stuff that we recommend because it has been tested by us and it’s going to be about a fraction of the cost of what you would pay in an airport. Don’t waste your money in gadgets in the airport. They’re overpriced and crap. The next one is from Linda. Eating breakfast at the hotel is a big waste. Always go to a bakery or even a cafe. And Carol says, “Buffet breakfast at the hotel.” And 7 days we only went once. It was a waste of money. Lesson learned. Some hotels have good breakfast and some have regular ordinary breakfast that you might as well just go to a to a bangerie because the baleries have amazing stuff. Cafes have amazing stuff. But the deal with wasting money in a hotel breakfast is that if you book your hotel, including the meal, you’re locked in. And you don’t want to be locked in every day. If you go to the hotel and you decide you want to eat breakfast there, they will sell you breakfast for today. You can do it however you want. But if you lock it in when you book the hotel, you’re wasting money. If you got value out of this video, please click the subscribe and like button. And next I would watch this video about how to avoid getting robbed by pickpockets.

I bought the Paris Pass for the convenience. I was fully aware I was wasting money when I did it but wanted to be able to skip the lines and also just not think about how much things would cost. I also considered it as a way for me to pay upfront, which I personally find a helpful way to "budget".
I visited Paris this week with my kids. The idea with the regular busses is great. We even get a feeling of the Paris traffic.
When we wanted to get fast around we drove by metro, when we just want sight seeing we took the bus.
Agree with every caution listed. Side note – Angelina's 35 years ago was amazing and yes the Jules Verne is VERY expensive…but on a gorgeous late spring day, the view is for me the most spectacular in all of Paris, the meal was definitely worth the Michelin ** price, and the private elevator a most appreciated amenity.
I just love you guys….what time of the year you are recording this video? It seems chilly
The Metro pass is fantastic value. Metro, bus, RER, tram, even the funicular at Sacre Coeur… All included. The trick to seeing Paris is take the metro to a certain area and go for a walk. When you're tired or bored, find the nearest metro. Saves loads of time and energy (the novelty of Haussmann's buildings can wear thin when you're spent)
Absolutely love your channel, and thank you so much for sharing.
In 1968, my college tour group, visited Versailles, we had a tour of the Mirror Room and then the gardens; even back then, when there were no crowded tourists, it was just a waste of time.
And the Louvre, the Mona Lisa, no crowds again in 1968, was a waste of time, I could see a better version of it now online.
My tour group, spent six days in Paris, four of those days were unguided tours; we could just explore on our own, it was so much fun.
Of course again, in 1968, there were not the crowds that are in 2025.
Hi could not find your list of recommended tour guides, so is Le Paris De Patrick and Paris with Flo both recommended. Pls advise.
03:01 Had a beer there 1986 the que behind me grow when the bartender poured my beer slooooow haha! Took my son there 2023. Whe had some US tourists before us and they had a hard time to decide what kind of ticket they want took the next que and they still debated when we took the elveator.
Audio guide at Muse D'Orsay was great.
Sorry guys, love your videos and we are coming to Paris but Aubervilliers to Musee D'Orsay is 9 or 10km AS THE CROW FLIES……the Navigo Decouverte seems amazing value…especially as we are both in our late 60's.
Who the heck goes to restaurants in the tourists locations??? really?? It's basic rules of traveling.
Why even try to go to those snobby restaurants near the Eifel Tower? Not us.
On the other hand, paying 32 Euros for a weekly metro pass is a great value. Especially when it includes busses and trams and more. A great value. Paris is large and although it is fun to walk it, there are many locations that are just too far.
Ah, look at the menu first…?
Buying stuff at the airport? We are from Montrell never buy ANYTHING. I bought one on Amazon and it was an inflatable one. Easy to carry and pack.
Your videos are excellent! ππ»
This was such a fun video to watch! Your tips and the real stories you shared make me feel so much more confident about planning my next trip. Love how you keep it honest but encouraging it makes Paris seem exciting without the expensive mistakes!
I'd have to agree with the Angelina's review. We were there in August and by the time we got a table, all the desserts we'd have ordered were sold out. The hot chocolate was delicious, but the experience wasn't worth the money. As for the Hop On, Hop Off, we did the Paris After Dark bus tour and it was amazing! It stopped right in front of the Eiffel Tower at a few minutes to 10, just as it lit up. Well worth the cost!!
Hop on hop off is good. One day isore than enough
Merci
Excellent vΓdeo! I totally agree with you !
RODIN museum over LOUVRE. PARC ASTERISK over DISNEY!!!! Love love LOVE how someone other than Disney could do it in an equally spectacular thing!!!
I humbly disagree with the Hop On Hop off!!! I do this in EVERY city I visit….AAAAAND, since it's 24 hours…I be sure to hop ON between 11-1….so I can tour for TWO DAYS!!! Even in the USA, where I live!! I time my hop ON!! so that it covers the next day!! Strategic!!
Hi I am going to spent 6d5n in Paris one of my day I will travel to premium outlet and another day to Versailles. Should I get the weekly metro pass? Is it worth it?
I wish we wouldnβt have done this β. β¦ I wish we HADNβT done this β βπΌβ€οΈπ
Been to Paris 3 times and again in a few weeks.
Walking is part of seeing the city.
However we usually get the metro pass & some days we didnβt use it much , other days ALOT!
Walk have fun!
P.S. donβt try too many museums or rush them. I love museums but youβll burn out rushing and whatβs the point of looking at art if you rush!
No use!
In peru they do the same thing but wit a twist . Flights are jacked up for foreigner's museums and trains to macupicu, cabs, any touristy things. But they don't seem to get you on food.
Sooo true.. angelina is over rated. I dont know why thinks its good. We went and it was a waste of time. skip it.
25 years ago we spent a wonderful month in Paris. We read everything Rick Steves wrote about Paris & France. We walked, took the Metro, RER, and TGV. Stayed in a real French hotel & ate local. It was heaven!
Versailles is touristy, but totally worth a visit all the same. Go first thing in the morning or in the evening for a concert or opera.
The hop on hop off bus is also great to get the lay of the land, and you can get off at all the main tourist spots and get back on to move on. I got a tour guide at Notre Dame but it was free entry dah! the guide was boring as you can research for free on google, 30mins outside and 30mins inside where he had to speak very low, so not value for money. Versailles tour guide including audio was well worth it but too many people but i still loved it. I wish I had gone to Loire Valley as well. Angelinas was overpriced at versailles the signature cream cake was awful and I didn't eat it. Louvre tour guide missed the long queue and took us on the long walk to Mademoselle Mona Lisa.
Where can me and my wife go to eat, she is adventurous and Iβm not that courageous?? We will be in Paris for four days and nice for three days!! Thank you β¦
The museums are definitely a one a day things! Trying to go to more than one in the same day sounds insane to me!
I see frequent videos about drinks, but are there issues with bringing outside drinks like my own water bottle?
3 times to Paris and beyond. Never been on the tour de eiffel, or inside the Lourve.
Just love walking around the gardens and eat- πππ
You could also describe such people as a kind of pickpocket, couldn't you?
We stayed outside the city (Marriott timeshares not far from Disneyland Paris), and bought one week passes (we got the local rate!) for the RER. Those also gave us unlimited use of the metro as well. We had a car, which we used to get to the RER, and for 2 days when we didnβt go into the city, but otherwise, the pass was worth it to us.
Can I get a Navigo Jour Pass for 1 day if im a tourits?
