Pretty much any damage that isn’t a small scratch requires helmet replacement to be safe.

A helmet can be damaged to the point where it’s no longer significantly protective even without a visible crack in it.

Your helmet has visible damage to the foam. Helmets are essentially sacrificial to save your noggin. This damage to the foam means there is a spot where it will break with very little energy input, meaning more energy goes into your skull. It’s done for. This helmet is no longer protective at all.

  3. Basically any damage to a helmet compromises it. I don’t replace a helmet that gets scuffed from non-impact, but dents? YUPPERS.

  4. That crack could split the helmet faster when it’s hitting a wall with 50km/h and really hurt your brain or it could be fine. Is it really worth the risk to gamble? Hang it on your wall to remind you to take better care of your helmets 🙂

  5. I dont change my helmet if there is a small damage on it but this is considerably big enough

  6. Small crack in the plastic shell? meh.

Small crack in the foam? Toss that thing before someone thinks it’s safe and goes on a ride with it.
