Still slow as can be, but I shaved almost an hour off my moving time and 1:20 off the total time from my first century in May. Not bad for a 240lb/108kg dude who will be 60 in a few months. Maybe one day I’ll be able to keep up with the old guys that are always passing me.
Ride was the 32nd annual Ride Between the Waters presented by [Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore](https://www.cbes.org/bike-tour). Start/End point was in Eastville, Virginia this year. As a mostly solo cyclist, I was a bit apprehensive at sharing the road with 1199 other riders, but it did not seem crowded at all. Staggered start times depending on distance (there were 25, 40, 60 and 100 mile options) made a big difference there, I think. As the routes diverged I saw fewer and fewer other riders, and when the 100 mile route split off it got downright lonely at times.
Bike is a 2022/23 Trek Checkpoint ALR5 Driftless 1×11, with Pirelli Cinturato Evo 700×40 tubeless tires. No mechanical issues at all, save for at the start when it took me 10 minutes to figure out why I couldn’t clip in on the right pedal. Turns out one of the screws had backed out – 30-second fix once I realized it. I had retorqued everything on the bike in preparation for the ride, except those screws of course.
