Hi folks. I’m building up a Salsa Fargo for bikepacking and gravel riding. My last Fargo (stolen) was 2x but I am leaning towards 1x for my new build. I’ve read a lot online about the Ratio Tech 1×12 upgrade but I’d love to hear more riders experience with it.
I’m also curious what SRAM components folks have used? I found a great deal on a XO1 derailleur but was thinking GX for the cassette and chain and Rival for shifters and brakes. Open to any thoughts and opinions!

(For some reason I reeaally don’t like the GRX shifters but I know that’s a good option too)

Pic of previous (rip) Fargo for attention

Thanks!

  1. I am using it with a rival shifter, GX derailleur, and GX cassette on my daily commuter.
I replaced the GX derailleur pivot bolt with one from the X01, to remove some play, but otherwise the combo has been just fine.

Works really well, did it with apex shifters and gx rd. Installing is also not a bit hassle

I Ratio 1×12’d my Sram Force 1×11 into a 44x51t setup – I had to get a further long Garbaruk cage for the pulley wheels to clear the large cassette.

It was useful to get more life out of the bike and tackle MTB terrain, but as someone who frequently travelled with the bike and had falls on said MTB trails, the setup was really vulnerable to mech hanger bashes, and doesn’t shift particularly smooth. There was a long time I couldn’t access the largest 2 cogs and bike mechanics struggled to troubleshoot owing to all the changes.

Ultimately it cost £300+ or so to get all the parts and labour done. I personally feel the money was better spent getting T-Type with UDH. Better shifting but also bulletproof robustness
