(Ok I know I’m asking this on a Canyon fan forum, but) – Asking group’s thoughts on whether an upgrading will feel like a difference or not?? Will it be night and day or just a little better??

Going from CS105 mech to CE CF SLX SRAM Di2, alum to carbon frame, cable to hydraulic, alum to carbon aero wheels, powermeter, cooler tool set, etc.. The Canyon in this trim (photo) is my dream bike for what I want to spend (Around $5k +/-). Usagewise, I’m a 48year old slow, novice rider who only avgs about 50 miles a week, usually in one or two rides at 15-20mph avg. No racing, competition, group rides, etc. I just like getting out and riding our local trail system and roads for a couple hours. I think the Endurace has a relaxed geometry like the Cannondale Synapse, but honestly I haven’t ever ridden one it just seems like the perfect bike from everything Ive ready and compared between manufacturers.

I really happy with my current bike, but more always seems like better and the Canyon is super tempting. Before I spend a few K on an upgrade, hoping to hear thoughts on whether it will feel like an upgrade if anyone has made a similar jump.

  1. I went from an old CAAD10 to an Endurance CF SL a few years ago. No regrets here! For my case, the less aggressive position was a back saver, letting me ride much longer without pain stopping me after an hour or two. Disc brakes were also a huge upgrade as they allowed me to brake with less pressure from my hands squeezing down. The comfort from jumping from 25mm to 30mm wide tires was amazing! I tend to go full speed over minor bumps and cracks in the road without needing to brace myself anymore. Funny enough, my CAAD is actually a smidge lighter than the Endurace, though weight doesn’t really make a huge difference at my fitness level.

My CF SL is still a mechanical 11-speed, which I preferred for cost savings and wanted to keep it analog. Though I wonder at times how much frustration I’d be saving myself in adjusting my derailleurs every few months by going electronic. I don’t like bleeding the hydraulic brakes compared to replacing a cable. I wasted a whole small bottle of fluid my very first time, and I learned a lot through many mistakes.

Did I go any faster? Not really TBH, though the bike’s geometry allowed me to ride longer and more often, so that made me spend MUCH more time in the saddle. Since you’re coming from a Synapse, which is already an endurance frame, compare the geometry charts carefully to make sure the new bike will fit you.

Overall, I’m incredibly happy I went to the Endurace. I’ve had it for 3 years now and will probably keep it for another 7-10 years.

  2. Haven’t made this jump but looking at the two, everything about this will feel like an upgrade; the wheels, the shifting, the brakes, the Canyon has much better components and the endurace is perfect for your use case, no racer is riding an endurace. If you do go for it, enjoy!
