My first ever Deliveroo vlog; even though I somehow started it by saying “welcome back” 😂
I wasn’t sure if I was actually going to turn this into a real video when I filmed it, but here we are. This is a proper first look at what it’s like cycling Deliveroo around Birmingham during a lunchtime shift.
It’s a slow one: no orders for ages, mopeds and e-bikes getting all the good jobs, and plenty of uphill punishment through the city centre.
We go from Chinatown to the Jewellery Quarter, past the Christmas Market setup, and over Black Sabbath Bridge 🤘 before finally landing one heroic £3.52 order.
Expect:
• A forgotten charger moment 🔋
• Too many hill climbs 🚴♂️
• Awkward waiting around in New Street ⏳
• And an honest look at courier life in Birmingham.

Hi guys, welcome back to the channel. Back with another episode of Brum Eats. Back out for Birmingham lunchtime this afternoon. Yesterday quiet, but we’ll see how we get on today. The weather’s looking good. We got delivery today. Let’s go get it. I forgot my charger, so I got to go back and get the power bank. [Music] All right. So, I’ve got the charger. So, this will just sort of live in my pocket as we go around. Just going to be sort of going around the Birmingham area today. See what we can get for orders. Uh sky is looking quite gray. Hope it doesn’t rain on quite lock here. Don’t know why I showed you that. So, we’re just cycling into the city center. Um, but we’ll see how it goes in a sec. I might move on to the tram tracks. Sort of getting near to Birmingham’s Chinatown now. No orders yet. Christmas market. Preparations over there. I think it’ll start getting busy for like another 20 minutes or so. But I like to be on the app just to sort of put my steak in early doors. See what’s going on here. Tell you what, all this cycling really does wear me out. put the arcade in the center. Really not a lot of action. The um delivery, it’s the only app so far that same, but there’s not really much going on. But, you know, I enjoy getting out on the bike to be fair. Might head up to New Street in a bit. I don’t really know how I’m going to record me getting the orders because I’ll be on the app and I need to see a camera again. Too bad it’s just a trial anyway. See how it goes. I’m a bit shy. I’m going to head up to New Street. That seems to be where the riders are going. They’ve just a few have just passed me with their bags getting ready for lunchtime. So, we’ll see how it’s going. Obviously, they’ve been on this app a lot more longer than I have, so they know where to go. But I think they get an advantage because they’ve got an ebike and they get further sort of range coverage. But anyway, we’re on um I believe this is one of the main cycle routes in Birmingham. It goes right down to the university. We’ll see. I’m obviously not going to record as we go over the junction though, but I do like these. These are quite cool. Just climbing up hill streets. It is ridiculously steep up here. You see the trams and the start of the Christmas market as well. Here we go. Up on new street. Hopefully start to get a few orders. See what’s going on. I really am shattered after that uh hill climb. It’s always quite busy down here. Probably should have gone through the back way, but I wanted to get some Christmas market footage. Here we go. This is where everyone seems to hang out. No one speaks to me though. Just have a pigeon bark. Put up a little cycle around. This guy’s watching me. This happened to me yesterday. A lot of the guys on the mopeds and ebikes are getting orders, but I’m not. So, we’ll see what’s going on. Right. Don’t seem to be getting anything around New Street. I’ve been out for about an hour. It’s quite embarrassing. So, I’m just sort of heading around to the business district. I think I’m going to go down this ramp. Society is pretty good, actually. It’s just opened. It’s like one of those food market places where there’s loads of different vendors in one spot. See what’s going on around here. Going to go for this G. This is a cycle area. It’s a shared use cycle area. So, going to go out onto the Oh, no. I was going to go then, but I didn’t want to get hit by a bus. Okay, let’s go out onto the road with the buses. It’s nice there. Actually, the wind’s the wind’s calmed down a bit. I do need to get a camera mount and a camera to be fair. It is meant to be out on the bike. I mean, not the safest way of vlogging if I’m honest, which I fully fully accept. But this is more just to get better the camera test. This guy’s going to walk in front of me, isn’t it? Yep. Knew that was going to happen then. Oh, a little cycle route there up onto the pavement. You should never undertake buses like that, but I was going to the cycle route. Just going to drop down here. Just gone 25 to 1. Been out for about an hour and a bit and no orders. I don’t know whether this is because of the new Door Dash takeover, but I just don’t seem to get orders on the lunchtime. I went out a couple of Tuesdays ago. I think it was 5 in about an hour and a half, maybe 2 hours. So, we’re getting absolutely no orders again. Probably going to head towards Broad Street area. Head towards Black Bridge. I’m not sure how long I can follow the Trump TR for as a cyclist. I guess we’ll see. [Music] No behind me, so see what happens. Is it more sensible to be scared uh to be more afraid of Trump than it is buses? Or is it more sensical to be more afraid of buses than traumas? For me, it’s the buses. I mean, I am wearing very bright clothing, though. Black Summer’s bridge. There’s a uh the camera up there that we can pose for. If we just sort of wave in this general direction and catch the time you got to get it later. Scan that QR code that takes you to a live feed of the camera that’s up there and you can screenshot it and you get a selfie. Got the first order finally. Wagon mama’s and bringing plates told me to go up in the lift to the lobby. So, let’s uh let’s do that. But I forget how I forget how big this bag is. I hope my bike’s going to be okay. All right, got the order. I just sort of stood there like an idiot and then they went, “The bag’s behind you. Let’s go get it. Lovely little cycle down the canals. Going to go past the flapper. Lovely for it. Okay, we’re here. I don’t know where 7B is though. This must be here. Okay, that wasn’t the best. It was £3.52, but you know, still better than nothing. I’m well out into the jewelry pool now, though. I wanted to film the handover, but I’m using my phone to vlog and work, so it’s a bit tough. We’ll see how it goes. But, um, you know, we’ll we’ll see what happens. You just got hit by Mercedes. We’re going to have to cycle back to the central now. But I’m glad to have got an order finally. Jewelry quarter was nice. Jewelry quarter. The jewelry quarter is nice. Very old sort of factory turnaround. You know what? I actually I really do fancy this cafe hive. I think Bendley Place might be a good place for me to go as a cyclist cuz it’s hard to get to if you’re on a moped. So, I might stick around there going forwards. Just check the traffic. There’s a van coming. We’ll wait. Oh, there’s a car coming. Heading back into sort of central Birmingham now. See what’s going on. Just dip out into the road here. This uh this road to the right is seems to hang out. I do struggle. I do struggle. We just had to sell a bag of bombs on New Street. Still only got one order of £350 something. So sort of 10 to two. Bit bad though, isn’t it? A vlog for one order. Nice day to get out, make content, do something creative. tempted to go home. There’s not a lot going on. There’s a lot of people here, too. Just so frustrating, really. Everyone seems to be parked up as well, which suggests there aren’t many people going out currently for orders. Although, I do hear a lot of people’s phones ping for orders. But as you can see, there’s not really a lot going on here. Yeah, I’m going to start heading home. I think there’s a lot of guys just hanging around there. A couple of my friends that are there just seem to be saying it’s not that busy. So, I’m still online. I’m just sort of heading towards home. I doubt we’ll get anything now. It’s not really a hot spot down here. Cycling back up Digford High Street. It is nice being able just to go on these tram tracks because the trams aren’t active yet. They were supposed to be put like operational this year. I didn’t really know what happened. The building stuff over here as well. Of course, the Old Crown. Going to call it a day. I think did one order at £352. We were out for a total of 2 hours and 10 minutes and that works out to about £160 an hour. So that’s that’s Wednesday lunch in central Birmingham as a cyclist with delivery. Thanks for watching and hopefully make some more content soon and get some more orders.
