So I just installed my new derailleur hanger, new derailleur, new gear cable and new chain. Indexed everything but every so often the chain is catching on the next sprocket down so it gets abit stuck, doesn’t stop completely but jolts abit. If I move up another gear and move down it’s fine again just abit annoying. I bought the chain off ebay as a “KMC” one but it was rather cheap compared to in store shops so it makes me think it’s not a genuine KMC one or the wrong speed even though it said 9 speed chain (which my cassette is). Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you

Is it physically bent? You can try bending it back, it’s steel. Otherwise, it definitely seems like the chain is too wide.
FWIW a lot of people here, including myself, tend to use 11-speed chains for everything from 8-11 speeds. I find it actually improve shifting, and the narrower chain would probably help you here.
How many gears on your rear? How many gears is the chain meant for?
Is it the case that chains come in different widths designed for different qty of gears?
(I have little expertise).
Also, maybe avoid cross chain. If in a fast gear in front, use fast gear in rear. And slow, slow.
Yeah I’m guessing either too wide of a chain if it only happens with one of the front chainrings it could be a chain line issue.
That chain seems too wide🤷♂️
It’s often better to run a chain designed for more gears than you have.
I run 11 speed chain on my 1×9 bike and it works way better than it did with dedicated 9 speed chain.
OP, if that cassette is a 9-speed, check the old chain to see if it says *NARROW* on the links. You may need a KMC 9-speed narrow chain.
I have exact same shit going on on Sram GX 12 speed, on 8-10 gear it “catches” the lower cog, so it’s noisy, and cannot be tuned, as the gears will move out of shift, making it all useless.
It is a pain.
Use a KMC 11-speed chain.
Is your FD rubbing by any chance?
