I would like people’s input/thoughts/advice on my bike helmet. 2 weeks ago I lost my helmet. I set it on top of my car and forgot it when I was loading up to go for a ride. I showed up at the trail and no helmet. I remembered I set it on the car so as I was tracing my steps back looking for the helmet I just stopped and got a new one figuring that my old one was road kill somewhere. A couple of days later I pulled into a store parking lot and I see a light green helmet sitting on a fence post. I forgot I stopped there on the way to the trail.

It doesn't seem wrecked. Would you use it?

I'm thinking of keeping it as a backup.

  1. If you have to ask you know the answer.

It fell off your car into pavement.

    Is your head worth it?

  2. You should replace the helmet, my dude. Your brain will thank you if you end up needing it during a crash..

As someone who suffers from TBI, it isn’t worth the risk. You don’t know exactly how it fell of the car or if it received any other damage before getting picked up. A lifetime of suffering isn’t worth trying to save a few bucks here, especially if you already purchased a new helmet.

  4. You can get that really high rated specialized tactic one for $50-60. Just throw the other one away

Check the internal frame connections. They are designed to shear on impact. look for micro cracks in the foam.

It has basically been involved in a crash. So, I personally would not use it. But, It’s your brain.

  7. Bin it and get a new one. Your head is definitely worth more than the $60 a new bucket costs.

Email the manufacture. If they say it should be replaced, you should get credit for a new one, like half off.
Personally, I doubt I’d care and just wear it. But I’d never own a thin skinned flimsy helmet like that in the first place. I e landed on my head and broke one in half. And I’ve worn a hard shell (fiberglass) full face ever since.
